Rebuilt Engine

Just got the Suburban back from the shop. Blew the engine in her last month. Total cost for the diesel rebuild with Turbo: $7,300.
I may have to sell the house and live in the A/S to pay for it...........

Just curious, was your engine the 6.5 turbo? What happened to it? What mileage was on it when it went? Not just being nosey, I have a 95 6.5 turbo that just rolled 220,000 miles. Still runs good but I think I may need new glow plugs and possible injectors. It's not quite what it use to be.

Yes its the 6.5 Turbo. It had 151,00 miles on it. An oil line broke and it ran out of oil before I realized what had happened. The engine seized up in a matteer of minutes. The engine rebuilder told me that their is a sensor thats supposed to shut down the fuel flow if you lose oil pressure to prevent this from occuring but it didnt in my case. I heard a noise and glanced at my dash. A light was on telling me to check the guages and when I did I noticed I had no oil pressure but it was too late at that point. It happened very fast. I had only been about 5 miles when it occured.

Question glow plugs

My limited experience as a diesel owner means this info. is from my mechanic......

Never change glow plugs unless you have cold starting problems. They either burn the ends off, which means they will come out easily and safely....

OR... they get misshapened on their ends with a ball shaped, hard crud that will usually get knocked off when removing the glow plugs and end up like a loose marble inside your
