That's why Ive been interested in getting the real world weight numbers and specs for the 6.2 MaxTow later this fall. I am thinking that The increased payload numbers (RGAWR) and that torque may just be the ticket for my 30'er.

That looks like a pretty beefy 1/2 ton! Glad to see they are adding more cooling with the upgraded radiator. I wonder if the pricing is going to put that truck in diesel territory as it is only offered on their highest trim packages.

High $ half ton- If you look at the comparison test the 5.3L LTZ model tested was almost 51K. Yikes!

I believe my 08 5.7L Tundra (25K) will out perform and out tow any of the models tested in the comparison test.

I believe I would jump to a 3/4 ton diesel before I would pay 50k for a 1/2 ton gasser- even if I had to wait until the end of the year for the big dollar discount.

I wouldn't bet a mortgage payment on it. High-trim trucks seem to come with large-diameter wheels these days, which limits the choice of high-load tires. Since the article states that they're limiting the 12k tow limit (and perhaps the 6.2l engine?) to the top trim tiers, cargo may not go up commensurate with tow rating.

The model tested had a gvwr- curb weight of 7,200-5,600 or 1,600 lbs. The tires were P275/55R-20. The gcwr was 15,000 lbs.

It still boils down to the final max payload capacity of the vehicle after all the "dealers" bells and whistles, extended cab, etc.

We all know the engines in the 3/4 trucks and SUV's are not the problem, its the weight these vehicles can place on their tongue or in the bed ala fifth-wheel.

I've been going back and forth on this since GMC announced the new Sierra 6.2L. I have a good acquaintance who is a GMC dealer who has been providing me with whatever info he has and can share. Some of the things I've now learned:

The Sierra Denali 1500 fully loaded (as others have pointed out) will likely be close to the price of a mid-tiered 3/4 gasser, but still a little less than the diesel option.

The torque curve on the new 6.2 is much flatter than the diesel. So while it generates great torque it doesn't have the same "off the line" torque that (obviously) the diesel would have,.

The BIG thing as others have pointed out is the tongue weight. If you load up a 3P hitch, full LP, maybe an extra battery or two, solar, etc. the published AS tongue weight ends up not relevant. My International 27FB's actual tongue weight is closer to 1,050 (versus the 770 published). Throw some other stuff in the back of the p/u bed and that 1,600 capacity goes fast.

Having said all that--the new 6.2 will be a great truck--IMHO not necessarily a great value for the incremental power that you get.

I have been waiting for additional information on the 6.2L as well. Was considering a 2500 but rethinking that and leaning more toward the 1500. I tow our 30' with a 1500 currently and believe the 6.2 may just be what I'm looking for. I know there are a variety of opinions about TVs as evidence by the many threads on this subject but for me it comes down to the 1500 (5.3L) is going to be ten years old, has performed like a champ, now has 100k miles and I would be reluctant to change brands although I know there are many other good TVs out there. I'm not in the diesel camp because I just don't see the cost benefit to have more torque on take off.

I would like to see the torque curves ,not just the max numbers,The thought of running up grades at 4krpm sounds noisey. The Turbo'd ford max torque at at 2500rpm sounds better but the higher hp will get you up the hill faster but with how much noise

That is probably going to be a very nice truck but like many of the newer trucks there just isn't any curb appeal to me......... Maybe it's one of those vehicles that would look better in person or it just has to grow on you.
