There was an ad showing one of the big 3 diesel trucks pulling a railroad train. But I wouldn't do it lol

Take these ads with a large shaker of salt. They lie!

The small print says "dramatization-do not attempt". So I'll just taxi my A380 to the ramp.

That goes to show you that those published tow rating have a crap load of CYA built into them. I saw a Tundra pull the Space Shuttle a couple of years ago in LA.

OK, I love Porsches, but this is just plain dumb.

I think maybe I can explain what Rob meant. In no way can you measure the towing ability of a vehicle Porsche or otherwise by trying to pull a heavy item on flat ground. There are too many people on this forum who have vehicles that are being forced to tow versus being designed to tow. I've seen a man bullet train on a train track with his teeth But that does not mean he can tow and Airstream 100 miles. Also note that the Airbus has a front wheel which means the Porsche has taken on absolutely no tongue weight whatsoever. So I think with my friend Rob meant but "that's just plain dumb" is "that's just plain dumb". Porsche is a great cars Rob happens to own one of the finest note the Blackswan but if you think for a minute that a Porsche would make a mediocre tow vehicle you are wrong. Fast with lots of torque correct, but payload capacity NO!

Did Porsche mention that they are going to increase the towing capacity of Cayenne based on this test? Did they mention that people should buy PC to tow their A380? I do not think so... then still I do not understand what is plain dumb. I think that some people are just being nervous when they see something smaller then a truck towing anything bigger than a pop up trailer.

You guys should read the small print in the ad. It's a dramatization! Just like the commercials for Red Bull that show people flying!

Nope, no nervousness here. I just think it's an unnecessary abuse of a perfectly good Porsche. And, maybe it's just me, but I think most advertising is just plain dumb. Please understand that I wasn't inferring that you were somehow "dumb" for posting this... no sireee. Heck, I've done more than my share of posting "dumb" stuff.

I also think the ad was dumb (like many other ads you see online or on TV). VW seems to be making questionable towing ads now and then. Several years ago VW had an ad of a Touareg pulling a large Airstream. Someone bought a Touareg to pull the same Airstream, and it could not! The guy sued and VW had to buy back the car and apologize, saying the marketing team went crazy with the commercial. Maybe thats why they added the dramatization small print.

If the guy had only read Airforums he'd have bought an F350 and towed happily for ever after!

I took the time to read the available info re the test. They loaded 4 tons of ballast in the back seat area of the Porsche so it had enough traction to do the test.
As for tow vehicle capabilities this "on track performance test" kinda shows how well they can tow especially when the s*** hits the fan.

The good stuff starts at counter 135.

In auto manufacturing, there is a sales side and a manufacturing side. The sales side produces all of the slick graphics, commercials, print ads and so on. The manufacturing side determines the specifications and capacities. I would never, ever let a salesman be the determining factor in a tow vehicle decision.

Read the specifications, believe the specifications and know that the sales side is there to get you to buy what they are selling. If they can't dazzle you with brilliance they will baffle you with bull stuff.

Be smart, do your homework before you shop.

Never heard about it, but it intrigued me

Wow, just wow... ads are dumb? Rather those who act entirely based on the ads.

You seem shocked by the concept of a dumb, useless ad (which are plentiful).

Hopefully, you were not the creator of that Porsche towing ad
