Lets just say that I learned a lot about the "performance truck" with style- the Chevrolet SSR. Looks like ggoat has a nice set up and it is working well for him.
Now, another real performance truck, more emphasis on truck and less on style, is the Toyota Tundra 5.7L 2wd. The 08 brochure references a 0-60 time for a regular cab Tundra of 5.9 seconds. My truck is a double cab model that weighs 300 lbs more, so it will not be quite as fast, but it will carry 3 more passengers in a full rear seat.
My towing set up is shown in photo #1. I also get 13-14 mpg towing, so it is reasonably economical.
Most of my driving is done with the bed cap in place (photo #2). I just recently drove from Lynchburg to Chesapeake (200 miles) with a full load of tools and two dogs and got 22.8 mpg at 60-62 mph (photo #3). That is not too bad considering 381 hp and 401 ft-lb of torque available with a 4.3 rear axle.
