overheated transmission in boise, ID

Going through the tetons on rt 22 we encountered a 10% grade, uphill, then down. going uphill we topped out at 15mph. downhill was even scarier, if that's possible.

So after that, the truck was just not the same. I think i oerheated the transmission. somwhere, about 15 - 20 miles from boise ID the truck died. its a 84 diesel 6.2 liter suburban, however it did not have cooler(s) on the tranny.

So we were towed to "on the river RV park' here in boise. we broke down friday night - and theres no deisel mechanics in til monday am.

this puts us a bit off schedule.

note: thanks to loudruff and bredlo for putting us up over labor day weekend. we had a blast!

Also a shoutout to redbarn, who we ran into at the RV hall of fame in elkhart, IN.

Sorry to hear of your mechanical problems...some of those grades can challenge driver and vehicle in a big way. I recommend the Mountain Directory West for Truckers, RV, and Motorhome Drivers, soft cover. We never go west without it. It describes Teton Pass on Hwy 22, 10% grades, and the horror story of runaway truck ramps on either side of the pass that must CROSS the oncoming lane of traffic to attain the ramps-WHAT??? I think Boise might be a good place to be highcentered for a long weekend on a marathon trip. Rafting on the river right through town...and probably many other college/mountain town activities and shops to wander. Best wishes for a remainder of the trip free of such unpleasant surprises, and may you enjoy many ;eaceful evening campfires on the rest of your meander across our great country. ~G
