Our "new" tow vehicle...

Check it out... won't it look great towing a vintage Airstream?

It is a 1964 Land Rover station wagon. We have been looking for a vintage tow vehicle- but needed something with 4 doors to accommodate the dogs and child.

That's on my list of stuff to get one of these days as well. I love the look of those older Land Rovers. Let us know how it works out as a TV. Are you going to (or does it need) do any restoration work on it? Keep us up to date if you are.

Very nice! I've got a 73 Series III 109 that I hope to one day use to tow my 61 Ambassador. I'll need to upgrade the brakes, and a V8 would be better than the 2.25l I have under the hood now.

Mine has been a great vehicle for us. We drive it about 15,000 miles a year, and it's never let us down.

It runs and has a chevy in line 6 instead of the original engine. We aren't going to totally restore it but rather "street rod" it a bit- replacing the drum brakes with disk brakes will be one of the first things to do so we an tow safely with it. A lot of the parts are still available for it so we will work on it little but by little bit.

The body is all Aluminum!

Oh my, that's a classic!

You might want to rebuild those rear leafs (and the fronts too.. but I was looking at the stack of height on the rears) with new bushings in those shakles.. I'd imagine it would have a lot of sway inducing rear slop if they're not rebuilt.

A Chevy I6? That must be as period as the truck! Coolness all around. A 4BT Diesel would be a nice addition if you ever decide to reaplace the I6.

Do you have a blog on restoring the Rover? Keep us informed if you do.

We will blog about the rover on our website...

www.ClassicAluminumTrailers.com

Shocks will be redone early on as well- so it doesn't ride like a bronco as much!

I don't know about a 1964 but I have a 2005 defender 110 Td5 and it is a great TV. I wish I could bring it back to the US to tow my Airstream but DOT said no, no and no....

Neat TV. I can just imagine seeing that coming at us with Airstream in tow, in the sixties as we were tooling down the highway in our family car pointing out Airstreams to our parents delight.

The upgrades to new style brakes, shocks, lighting, and perhaps some creature comforts can make it even more pleasureable. What a great vehicle to be using while raising children. It will leave lasting memories.

Enjoy your new ride. Look forward to seeing your "renewal" pics on the blog.
