I'm old and in the way. (Come to think about it, I always have been). Every rig I've ever had for the past 50 years, that's been worth a damn, has gotten an oil change every 3000 miles. I've always used Delo, and with Bess, she also gets a fuel filter every time.

I checked both of my vehicles' owners' manuals. One recommended oil change interval checked out the same as the owner's manual, the other did not. I do not trust this site.

Bess burns no oil after 250 thousand miles. Why would I use any oil other than Delo?

It shows 5K for my Tundra which is what Toyota recommends as well. I use Mobile-1 and replace it at 7.5K

We change oil because it gets dirty. If I can not easily see the dipstick through the oil, it's time for a change. Depends on where I have been driving. Sometimes it may be 2,000 miles or less, sometimes 5-6.000.

That dirt turns the oil into a liquid grind stone.

The book may say 3,000, but if it's dirty, out it goes. Oil and filters are cheap compared to replacing the metal.

True, though with the diesel, the color will turn within a few hundred miles. Many times, we've pulled over in dust storms and waited it out.

Mobil 1 says upto 15K, the Corvettes with very high cost engines use syn at 10-15K

BMW same.

I run 10K in all my cars, it always looks clean!

Yes, I neglected to say that this can not be used on diesel engines. We had a houseboat for 25 years that had a diesel engine. I changed the oil and filter once each season. I'm not sure, but I think the sulfur in the fuel turns the oil black right away. The black coats the entire inside of the engine and turns the new oil black quickly.

This is another one of those threads that convey, ( what ever floats your boat ).

However, synthetic lubricants have extended the life, protection properties through the normal and on under severe conditions, that allow and extend oil and filter change intervals. This is why all of the major fleet owners, to include aircraft jet engines, use synthetic today.
