The new Nissan full size vans definitely suffer from the "ugly duckling syndrome", especially the high top model. They are beginning to grow on me, though, starting to look somewhat cool. These things have enough of a hood up front that you don't have the engine for an armrest. In the one ton version, they have an 8.700# towing capacity. These things could become a righteous tow vehicle.

I think calling that thing a 1 ton is a big optimistic. The payload capacity and towing capacity does not back that up.

The ugly Nissan van thingy has a payload of 2600 pounds. Why is that not fair to call it a "one ton" ??

As for the Excursion, my opinion is that it was simply a rather crude vehicle, which may have contributed to why it did not sell. Neighbor has one, I have driven it quite a few times, and have pulled my small bumper pull horse trailer with it. As I said....it drives like the super duty that it is....which is to say it's rather crude. Effective, but crude. Bring plenty of money for gas too, even in day to day use.

And no, I am not trying to slam Super Duty F series. We have a F350 dually, and I love driving it....but if you get out of a SD and into my Frontier, or a Tundra, you will think you are getting into a sports car by way of comparison.

I like my Excursion. It is a good solid vehicle and I plan on using it for at least the next 10 yrs. It is reliable.

Lol, I came across this old thread. Sure doesn’t see, like Airstream has been lightening up their trailers at all. If anything they are getting heavier without an increase in GVWR, leaving really limiting payloads.
