Thinking of buying a Nissan Armada to tow 25' 87 Sovereign. Anyone have info. or thoughts on same. Bucky

The Armada should be able to handle the task. Invest in a quality weight distribution/sway control hitch system.

I have a 2004 Nissan Titan (essentially the same powerplant and suspension) and I have towed my 7700# 31' Sovereign over 45000 miles without a problem.

Get a decent w/d hitch, set it up properly and enjoy.

You should be able to handle a vintage longer Airstream with that. I gave up my first-generation Titan when I got my heavy-ish '06 Safari. There were never any doubts about the drivetrain handling it. It gets fairly busy downshifting 2 gears every hill you meet. Mileage isn't fabulous. But the power and gearing are up to the task.

Just watch out on tow vehicle GVWR -- there's not a lot of extra weight handling capacity after you add tongue weight. But then... Rich Luhr towed his '06-'07 30' Bunkhouse with an Armada very successfully. All which leads me to echo moosetag's recommendation -- get a good weight distribution/antisway set-up and you should be okay.

We have the 2006 Infiniti QX56. This is basically an Armada. Have never had any problems towing. I would suggest the 4wd one as we have been in spots where it has been needed. Gas mileage is not the best, averaging about 10-10.5 mpg. The transmission seamed to heat up just little more than I liked seeing while in the mountains, so I added a transmission cooler. This works good.

i toewed a 34 footer with the armada for a couple of years. i would say the wheelbase was a bit short for that length of trailer. getting pushed through exit ramp turns, albeit a bit fast, was a little freaky. with your trailer length you should be fine.``regarding tranny comments, i found that was the vulnerable part of the equation. i felt funny shifts after 50k miles. i recommend the tranny cooler whether your in mountain or not and regular changes of the tranny fluid and filter changes. pain in the ass job but should extend the life of the tranny.

I like the Armada, but I would also look at an 07 and later Sequoia with the 5.7L motor. It will have a little more power and torque than the Armada, but the big benefit will be the 6 speed transmission, the tow/haul mode feature, the 4.3 rear end and the stock transmission cooler. You won't have any problems with annoying premature downshifting with the 5.7L motor equipped for towing.
I tow with a Tundra with the same drivetrain and my towing milage is very good (13-14 mpg, 24ft Tradewind).

I have a 2005 Armada SE 4x4 with 100K miles on it, bought it new. Tow a 23' International with with a weight distributing hitch. This is an AWESOME tow vehicle, and a great daily driver. It looks great, has tons of interior room, plenty of power, a tow mode for the transmission and handles great. I could afford to buy a new SUV, but am completely satisfied with the Armada. I plan to drive mine into the ground.
