Newbe TV Questions

We are about to take the jump from a SOB (PUP) to a AS, probably 28-31'. My current TV is a V8 Chevy Tahoe with a tow package and a Prodigy brake controller and a SMALL sway bar. The owner's manual says I have 6900# of towing capacity. I have been assured by two sales people that I have plenty of pulling power...salespeople !! One, who is an experience RV'er assured me that since the AS had 40# of "bearing weight X 4 that I only needed 160# of pulling strength. That sorta made sense but then again it sorta didn't, if you know what I mean. Although my home base is Central Florida I plan pulling up and down something larger than an overpass most of the time. My questions are, can I get it up the mountain and can I stop it on the other way down? I realize I my next question is "what type of hitch?" but first I need to know if I can get it rollin'

Thanks for any help
Pete

First of all, welcome to the Forums from the Florida Panhandle. We're glad to have you with us.

We have a 2005 Safari 25FB named Lucy. The rolling weight rolling is in the neighborhood of 7500#. Our primary TV in an '05 Suburban 2500 4x4x4 which does the job in all conditions. We also have an '04 Tahoe with Autoride. We have pulled Lucy with it a couple of times. The Tahoe's towing performance is marginal, at best. I wouldn't consider leaving Florida with the Tahoe doing the towing. The Tahoe is a great vehicle, but not towing a heavy trailer.

Remember that that the salesman will tell you that you that you could pull a 34 footer with a Ford Ranger.
