New Yukon XL question
We have a 1998 GMC Suburban 3/4 ton 7.4l 70K miles
I think it is now time to sell it but, GM does not make a big block for these any more. And still, no Diesel
If anyone has a 2007 or '08 3/4 ton Suburban or Yukon XL with the 6.0l engine, do you feel you have enough power for towing? Do you have the 3:73 or 4:10 rear end?
We are not truck fans. Don't have a use for one. Yukon XL only

SubFan,
Speaking from experience, I'm still kicking myself in the fourth point of contact for selling my 1972 Big Block 402 Sub. That truck could pull a house and then some. Keep your Burb....it doesn't have that many miles on it for its age, and it's got the legendary 454. What a great truck. If I didn't have a gooseneck horse trailer, I'd offer you a trade for my fully loaded 01 3500 CTD Ram, but it IS a truck.....

I'm looking at about 16K
It has the Alcoa wheels that Airtream Classics come with.
I'm the original owner, and it was a employee order. SLE
It also has the Banks power pack system. Its brown, 2 wheel drive.
We are still undecided?

In thinking about your original question: "Do you feel you have enough power for towing"?
How big/heavy is your trailer? That's what dictates how much tow vehicle you need. OTOH, more power never hurts.

I have contacted GM regarding MY2008 3/4 ton Yukon XL's and it is going to have a 6SPD heavy duty transmission and 17 inch wheels.
With 4:10s and the 6 spd I wonder if that would make up for some "big block" power or rather torque loss? or am I going down the wrong path.
My trailer isn't that big or heavy but, I do want to feel safe while towing and pulling 6 to 7% grades without the worry of lack of overall performance.
Our trailer is a 26 ft and is about 7200lbs loaded.

I have a 1999 3/4 ton Suburban with a 454. I love that truck. It gets 10 mpg whether I pull the trailer or not but we use it mostly to pull the trailer and at that point it can't be beat. The cost to buy something different would pay for a lot of fuel. Think carefully before selling it.

I'm still wait'n too!!!
In the meantime our 95, 3/4, 454,3:73 w/ 176k, eagerly awaits it's next assignment. Leave well enough alone!! IMHO the older BURB is still one of the best TV out there.
If yours is still mechanically sound, keep it til ya fall in love with someth'n else.
I work at a Chev store and the rumor has been around that the Dura-max will eventually be offered in the Burb. Imagine a Burb with Dura-Max mileage AND power, how cool would that be?
If ya like all us Burb fan's could wait together!!!!

subfan1, I to would be willing to buy your Suburban if you were not so far away. I agree with others they don`t make the new ones like the model you have I would keep that big block. My dad has a GMC 3500 savana van with the 454 and has 155,000 miles on it and runs like a champ. Davis

We do not have an '07 or '08, but we do have a 2005 Yukon XL 2500 4x4x4 (Quadrasteer) with the 6.0 liter gasoline engine and a 3.73 rear axle. We pull a 2005 Safari 25FB with a loaded weight right at 8000#. We have travelled extensively (20,000+ miles) with this TT/TV combo. We have found it very adequate in all situations including driving in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Rockies in Montana and Wyoming. We have always been able to maintain 55mph in any highway climbing situation.
The Yuk just turned 50,000, and we usually replace our Suburbans (this is our 4th) at 120,000 miles. As I am a Tim Taylor (more power) kind of guy, I am hopeful that the Duramax will appear in the Suburban in the next couple of years. I am dissapointed that GM saw fit to drop the 8.1 liter and the Quadrasteer, relagating 2500 Suburbans to the Secret Service and soccer moms. I, too, am not particularly enamoured with pick-up trucks, but I may be forced into one on the next go round unless GM wakes up.

It sounds like I should keep it a little longer. I do want the diesel option for it.
Here is a link to our Burb:
http://autos.ph.groups.yahoo.com/gro...os/browse/ac92
I hope it works, after 10 years it still looks great. Even though it does look dated.

Gone but not forgotten......
The "Frantic Banana" has left the pad.
Just sold the 95 Burb today. Was a GREAT TV for for 13yrs.
Went to a good home, will be used to tow a landscape trailer.
A bit anal of me, but I waited 'til I had a buyer that was going to use it for what it was designed for.......Towing.
