I've always been interested in the T, the diesel is yet another thing that peaks my interest. My concern for my 25' coach is how the heck would I connect the two. Right now loaded, I could easliy be upwards of 800+ lbs at the hitch. I think the unibody of the T is great for 22' or less, but I start getting uneasy above that point. The diesel, even at only 5.0L is surely more than up to the task of the 25'. I'd prob seriously consider the T if they went the route of Nissan and built it on a frame.

Great info...thanks! When one shows up around here, I will surely be eager to take a look and drive one.

Let us know how it does pulling your new trailer, when it arrives. Maybe we can then know more about what it can and can't pull.

Speaking of your coach X, any new news? Did they take any pics of it while being built?

I'll let you all know how it tows.

I talked to AS the other day, our 22' CCD went into production last Friday with a release date of April 12. Getting excited!!!

I thought of getting in process pics but then figured not to. Don't know why, exactly...

Thanks Twink, for the post.

I was reading some specs on the Toureg. They suggest not using weight distribution. Anyone know why? I would think that when towing any kind of trailer, one would want these.

Jonathan,

Actually, the Touareg receiver specifies the WD limits for the vehicle. My dealer says, "no problem at all". There has been much discussion about this with many of the hard-core 'streamers opposed to the Touareg as a tow vehicle. They are relying on the "story" posted by Bluvalley that, in my humble opinion, lacks merit or credibility. Frankly, I intend to tow my 22' CCD using WD. Actual hands-on use indicates the Treg as a superior tow vehicle but let's not go there here. Search "Garth Cane" on this forum for more info if you are interested. Or PM me if you would like to discuss in detail. I am pleased to discuss with anyone who has an open mind.

Best regards,

X

Hey X.

Thanks for the info. I thought that it was just the way they build the T-reg that somehow it just wouldn't work with the WD hitch. I reaaly love the T-reg and would certainly love to pull our 19' CCD around with that. I understand there is a 10 cylinderr Turbo-diesel version of this vehicle as well. It sounds like there is so much torque that when you push the accelerator on the TD, the planet actually rotates, but the Treg stays in the same position!!!

BTW it looks to be any day now that you get your new AS. You must be excited. Our goes into production on or around the 16th of this month....that's this Friday!!!

Best wishes.

Jonathan

Crazylev!

With an avatar like yours, you must truly be krazy! But are you crazy enuf to tow with a Tow Rig?

Aye, the V10 is out and it is a barnburner. Huge torque. $68,000 tag tho...

I would not hesitate for an instant towing your 19' CCD with a Tow Rig! A perfect match IMHO.

Our 22' came out of production last Thursday! Yay! Congrats on yours!!!! Aren't you just overly excited?

If you make it west, look me up - New Mexico. We'll be hitting the road on May 15, God willing!

Just off the VW forums - Touareg towing a 26'

More Touareg towing testimonials are coming in... I'll post mine as soon as I can...

X

This from the VW Touareg forum this morning:

Quote:
Well the gamble payed off .......While having some doubt as to the towing capacity I still went ahead and purchased a new 26.2 ft Terry 250RKS Travel Trailer. The RV dealership did not believe the Touareg would pull it. Cruising from San Diego up over the Laguna Mountains at about 5000ft at I think 6% grade. How did it do? Let's just say I had to watch my speed as I was passing tough guys in their Ford F350 Super Duty pick-ups pulling trailers of the same size. I counted at least three times where jaws literally dropped.
The PICS, below, are from the VW Touareg forum (this is not my rig):

Nice pictures. Nice rig. And what fun when you get to tour around after unhooking. Can't wait to see your setup.

X-Ray,
I'd be quite surprised if you were not 100% pleased with the towing performance of the Touareg. I test-towed with a less capable Mercedes ML320, and was speechless about the handling, although not overly impressed with the acceleration up the grades in SoCAl. At the time my regular tow vehicle was a 1-ton van. I wanted to replace it with an ML500, but my budget was only good for a used Suburban.....
