Picked up my new tow vehicle yesterday - it drives real nice! Here are a couple of pictures I took quickly. It is not hooked up, just parked in front of the Airstream for effect.

Good choice Ron. Just wait till you hook that puppy up and tow with it for a while. Congratulations!

I forgot how to insert a larger image or how to have the tumbnails enlarge when clicking on them, but if you click on the images # by my profile you can enlarge the images from there.

mirrors

I hope your mirrors slide out so you can see around that wide body trailer.
Some GMs do not have slide out mirrors.

Just reporting on my first tow with the new truck. Went 600 miles round trip this past weekend combined interstate, in-town and country roads. I am a believer now. 3/4 ton and longer wheelbase makes a vast difference. The rig seems like one piece compared to towing with the 1/2 ton Titan. No longer does the trailer wallow around behind the truck. Semi's passing do not have the push/pull effect any more either.
Now on to the Allison/Duramax - WOW. Effortless. I left the transmission in drive, non tow haul mode with cruise control on during the interstate routes and let the Allison do its thing. Only once did it drop down to 5th., never laboring and never raising the transmission temperature more than a few degress while going through the Adirondacks. The old truck would be shifting like a madman on the same route. In town and on roads with varying speeds due to curves, villages and traffic lights, I used tow haul mode. The Allison would downshift when braking perfectly selecting the proper gears in unison. I could go on and on about this, but I'll stop and just say IMPRESSIVE! By the way, I averaged 14 mpg on the trip and only now have 1,100 miles, still not broken in. I am a happy camper.

Congrats,, Your will have to bring it out to Colorado and give it the true mountain test... Then you will really love it... I remember the first time I drove to the mountains in NY (Lived in NYC for 3 years) coming from Seattle at the time, with Mt Rainier as a background I was thinking "where are the mountains".. Rolling steep hills.... But man it's beautiful out there... Glad you love your new rig...

congrats on your new diesel.you are going to love towing with this engine and trans.although i have a powerstroke,i am a previous gm gas owner.have been driving fords for the past 15 yrs since my brother is a ford tech.here is my brothers advice to me ever since i have owned my 6.0 powerstroke 2005.1)change oil every 5000 mile with oil filter.i have used 5w40 rotella since 20000 miles ,truck now has 50000 miles on it.2)change fuel filters every other oil change.3)buy your fuel from stations that you know that pump lots of diesel fuel.4)use a cetane booster since these v8 diesel need more than 45 cetane to perform effectively.most fuel stations are dispensing diesel that is approx. 40 cetane.my brother commented that most of the diesels they see in the shop are suffering from lack of proper maintenance or chip enhancements.ive run my truck stock from day one and followed my brothers advice and have not had any problems except for a recent drivers side ball joint replacement.i always use tow/haul mode when im hooked up to my trailer.i asked my brother about this and he told me always to use tow /haul especially with the combined weight that i have on the combo.again good luck with your new truck.my brothers dealership is one of the bigger commercial truck facilities in pa.
