That does not sound right at all unless you are upgrading to a longer shock with a separate oil pack. Bilstens should be around 150-200 per shock.

Please include the model no, 1500 2500 ? and engine.

Shocks do age, wear or leak, sometimes they age gracefully and you may not realize the effects unless you try new shocks. I took a quick look but needed to pin down the quadrasteer option.

Personally, I'd not even replace $100 shocks unless they were bad. When the front shocks started going out on my 1/2 ton, it was most noticelable with the trailer hooked up on the weight distribution hitch. It would rock like a hobby horse when coming to a stop.

There are probably folks here that know more, but I would not think Quadrasteer would require special shocks. Maybe your truck has a option with the Delphi MagneRide shocks? They have electronics to adjust shock dampening actively.

When the time comes, you probably could replace them with passive adjustable dampening shock like Monroe Sensa-Trac.

If the steep price tag is not due to electronic dampened shocks, it could be you have the airshocks (auto leveling) option. In that case, here is a replacement:

My new suspicion is this truck is equipped with a special shock and or rear strut system for the Quadrasteer option and I saw a with ZX3 electronic ride control option show up in a listing.

Me thinks very special components, but the owner will need to specify M/M/Y/Engine (possibly) and factory options for the suspension.

Good luck.

shocked

in the cab truck has a button that is labled manual selectable ride switch. this makes for a stiffer or softer ride...

again, i made the parts people input my vin and the came up with shocks
that cost $429 each for rear and $325 for front...

I want original equipment ...so is this the price to paY...does it seem prudent to replace at 100K if pulling trailer fultime???

With an ordinary workaday sort of a shock it would be reasonable to replace it as a scheduled maintenance item after 100k. Given the costs you will want to ascertain whether the shocks are shot and if so which ones. Are there visible oil leaks? What is the ride like? When you tow are you satisfied with the ride?

The quadrasteer is what makes suspension parts approach $1000 for what would normally cost around $200.

Im sure its a useful feature, but that feature entails paying a lot of money for maintenance.

thanks to all

I am sure you are quite right about the quadrasteer increasing the price of the suspension parts...but hey, I have the truck and it is paid for so i go with it....

the ride is solid and i most likey will not change the shocks at this point...

the truck is solid as a rock from front to back and i was going to do some other stuff, but the dealer leaves a lot to be desired in confidence so....i don't know

In 100k i have not replaced spark plugs.....how long should one go before replacing....

fuel injection service????

This sounds like the ZX3 option which may or may not be bundled with Quadrasteer, I don't know. To confirm look for a build sticker (sometimes on the glove box door or underhood) or the original window sticker. They will list the factory Regular Production Options, ZXE is an RPO. Are ZX3 and Quadrasteer the same RPO?

Unique limited edition options, Quardasteer and electonic ride controls often are not well supported in aftermarket parts due to limited vehicle population, features and tooling and development costs. GM may be the only source. But before you jump to that conclusion, can you look on a shock and see a manufacturer's name? Search that name and see if they sell aftermarket or just GM. Also might want to search in Google for your inquiry, it will often lead to a thread on a GM P/U forum that you would not be able to see w/o joining and searching within that forum.

Plugs should be replaced at 100K. Fuel injection service is a little more iffy. I'm of the opinion that it is ussually not nessasary. Adios, John

I wouldn't change them, they may go more than 200k.

Beyond build sheet/data tag/VIN, check over on an enthusiast site. May well be that someone -- several someones -- have already made some in-depth examinations of the vehicle/mileage/shock absorber questions. The Internet has made this quite easy compared to the day of magazines and getting to know mechanics and dealer service personnel. Until less than 10 years ago I was still behind the counter at NAPA where I was known working the huge paper catalogs to pin down all the cross references on shock absorbers on some ancient cars.

I'm a believer in preventive maintenance -- replace it before it breaks/is worn out -- but your fancy schmancy shocks may last a very long time depending on type. You've a unique vehicle, so, on the other hand, better safe than sorry. But don't trash the old ones, just clean 'em, box 'em, store 'em . . never know that those old pieces may someday be gold.

Good luck

.
