By now hopefully everyone has seen the new commercial for the redone Toyota Sequoia and the even better looking Airstream it is towing. The Airstream is showcased throughout the whole commercial as the family is off camping (boondocking even). The only question is with a new airstream in tow why would the kids want to sleep in the back of the Toyota?

Toyota Hype?

I couldn't quite make out the Airstream model. Could anybody else? It looks like a mid length AS. My question is, is the Sequoia up to the task? I don't know anything about the TV but I doubt it.

We thought the parents had figured out a "good thing." (wink, wink)

It was a cool ad...

At first I thought it was an Airstream ad! I thought how cool it was they were portaying a "lifestyle" than a rugged suv. I think the model was a International CCD 28'.

GM used to always put the Airstreams in Suburban brochures, especially in teh 3/4 ton section of the brochure.

Over 10,000LBS towing, I think it can handle it just fine.

25' Fb..

I saw the ad again, the model it is towing is a 25' Front Bedroom model. Looks like a Safari SE.

I also noticed that the Airstream was in nearly every shot during the commercial. That's pretty cool.

Wayne, I was thinking the same thing. Once I saw the airstream, everything else faded to the background! look at his site and you can see a good shot of the Airstream Toyota Sequoia - 2008 Pictures & Photo Gallery 2nd picture on bottom row! How Cool!

My brother-in-law has a 2003 Sequoia and tows a 1989 25' Excella. The Sequoia he has is rated to tow up to 6,500 lbs and his trailer loaded is about 6,000 lbs. We have traveled with him (and his family) a number of times and he is pretty happy with the handling/sway/gas mileage although I know he's a little underpowered in the mountains. But to answer your question, considering that the tow rating of the new Sequoia is 10,000 lbs I believe it's up to the task.

Hi Luckyducks. The Sequoia as a converted Tundra has a heavier curb weight than the Tundra. The elongated cab, seats and windows weigh more than a pickup box. Compared to Tundra this lessens its ability to bear passenger + tongue loads in this range. My 2006 25' FB SE is virtually identical to the 2008 in the ad and has slightly more tongue weight than an '89 25' Excella. Either way the numbers add up only if a minimum human load is carried in the tow vehicle. No fun that way. Compromising emergency maneuverability/braking & TV durability by overloading is the alternative. See http://www.airforums.com/forums/f206...ite-38937.html.

Airstream...A Japanese Legend???

This commercial truly breaks my heart. Call me old-fashioned, but I'm a "Buy American" American through and through. I can't believe Airstream calls themselves an "American Legend" then sells out to a Japanese manufacturer.

It also upsets me that Toyota uses this commercial to lay claim to activities that are iconically American. Those activities belong to us. We have fought and died time and time again for the right to engage in all of the pass-times that make up "The American Dream".

I think Wally Byam and all the dead veterans of Pearl Harbor are probably rolling over in their graves.

I don't usually get this opinionated and I hope I haven't angered anyone with this post, but I personally saw the commercial as an insult.
