New Ram Eco-Diesel Making Owners Sick!
It has been reported that new Ram pickups with the 3.0L eco-diesel has "literally" been making their owners sick. Fiat-Chrysler has determined the cause to be "carbon monoxide poisoning!" Some trucks have already been repaired, however at this time FC has not issued a recall. The problem seems to only be on 4X2 trucks at this time. Owners of such trucks should contact their Dealers.

To bad no one makes an electric vehicle with a 500 miles range, cargo capacity of 1000lbs and a towing capacity of 10,000lbs. Really does not matter, someone here would still find something to complain about.

RAM and Ford are the contenders for me, considering the current crop of vehicles. If the Colorado diesel turns out well and has the stones to do what I need I may add that to the candidates. Forced induction is high on my list, and being able to look at it inside and out over the long term is important, as well as being able to park it where I need to take it.

Yes, as a matter of fact I can cite a source! "Detroit - ABC News Station WXYZ!" Now you can climb down off your "high horse." No rumor here. They have done several reports on this, beginning last November. In a recent update, Chrysler spokesman Eric Mayne "said that problem affects more trucks than previously thought, owners will be notified by a Technical Service Bulletin." So far they have been replacing "exhaust coupling." Satisfied? Or do you need more?

I'll just leave this here-
Heavy (Ram 1500) | Fuelly
The worst possible combination of the RAM EcoDIESEL for economy (Crew Cab, 4x4, 6'4" bed 3.92 gears) and I've averaged over 20 MPG. That includes towing a 29' 6,500lb Airstream 2,000 of the 15,000 mile average.

[QUOTE] What makes me sick is all my Diesel driving friends.
Hi, what makes me sick is your stinking diesel fumes. I think all prospective diesel vehicle buyers should be required to drive 1,000 miles behind a diesel vehicle with their fresh air vents open. Then decide how much you like to pretend that you're Joe Kenworth. To me this is like when you drive thousands of miles to see the Grand Canyon or the Delicate Arch, Etc. and some @$$ less than ten feet away from you, at this beautiful sight, lights up a stinking cigar.

Let's try to stay fairly close to the original topic of this thread, the report about a TSB on the 2WD RAM 1500 Ecodiesel. We have plenty of contentious diesel-or-not and Brand X/Brand Y threads on AIRForums, and more than a couple of them had to be closed.

The only thing that makes me feel ill was seeing a $58,000 sticker price on a brand new Eco.

Obviously Bob, you haven't been around any new diesels. They don't smoke or stink at all.
Back to the topic of this thread-
I'm a member of the forum RAM1500diesel.com and I have followed the issues of exhaust fumes in a few of the trucks. I was even contacted by the reporter from the Detroit news station. I even thought that I could smell exhaust fumes in my truck a few times, but I think that was caused by reading too much internet forums. Maybe I was following Joe Kenworth too closely. I did have the dealer inspect the exhaust system, just in case and all was good.

Glad they found the problem. Flaws happen - nothing's ever perfect. How the manufacturer deals with it is crucial. My TV is a GM product and I'm disappointed in the way they handled the key issue for years. Good on Ram for acting quickly.
I thought too that the request to validate the story was a good one - shockingly, some things on the interwebs aren't always true :-)
As for diesel (and cigar) hatred :-D ...
Aren't all exhausts (diesel, gas, car, truck, cow, human) sort of an affront to the nasal passages? Why single out diesel? Though I've imagined if I could convert to "French fry oil" the exhaust would make me salivate :-)
Cigars - have to admit - guilty in the past (quit last summer, just before the U.S./Cuba handshake...). I have always loved the smell of a good cigar and probably always will. At campsites - fires (which also smell wonderful to me) probably generate more toxins by volume than exhaust or cigars but being outside, I don't worry about it. There are those for whom fires, cigars, perfumes etc. are just problematic and I'm sorry if those have ruined an otherwise pleasant camping experience for you or anyone Robertsunrus.
Which brings me back to the Ram. Exhaust leaking in to the cab of the truck which is usually sealed isn't only annoying, it's potentially deadly. Hopefully the problem is solved for good. I love the idea of that truck and where it's headed.

Takes too long to recharge.
But as another poster mentioned above, the Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) required now have eliminated the smoke and smell. Look at the exhaust pipes on a new diesel, the inside is perfectly clean.

Ha ha, that's a good one - stinking cigar!
I pour diesel cologne in the tank so as not to be too offensive to the jelly fish. I'll defend my 7.3L with Edge push button original and towing programs until it reaches about 750,000 miles on the odometer. Thanks Howie! 22mph highway with a feather foot on the flat. Tow 60 mph in OD about 98% of the time, 14.6+-mph. To this day, an old Excursion still can really handle the mother of heavy Airstreams with the best in the pack. A 34' S/O of course. Puff puff.
