New Quadrasteer Tow Vehicle

We have a new family member. Her name is Daisy, and she is an '04 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 Quadrasteer. We found her on Ebay, and picked her up in Flint, Michigan last week and drove her home. She has a mere 24,000 miles on her.

Lucy's current TV is Olivia, an '05 GMC Yukon XL 2500 Quadrasteer. Olivia has 64,000 miles on her, and we were getting concerned that she would wear out before GM wises up and makes a more exciting and better towing Suburban. We really didn't want to do the pick-up truck thing. Olivia has towed Lucy for 30,000+ miles, and we really like her performance, especially the Quadrasteer. Daisy is now Olivia's backup TV.

Between the two girls, we figure that we are good for another 5 or 6 years of Airstream adventures.

Olivia (the maroon Sub) has a lot of experience pulling Lucy, and get between 10 & 11 mpg when towing. She gets 13 to 14 mpg when running solo. Olivia is a 4 wheel drive.

Daisy (the silver Sub) got an amazing 16+ mpg on the 1,100 mile trip home from Michigan running at 75mph on the Interstate. We have not towed Lucy with her yet, so I don't have a towing mpg figure yet. Daisy is a 2 wheel drive which probably accounts for the better solo mpg. I'm hoping that she'll do a little better when towing.

Congratulations on the new 'burb. I discussed the pros of the Quadrasteer with you at the Can Opener and am glad you have another for the future should you ever need one.

How neat..we found our 06 on e-bay also. It didn't sell so we contacted

the seller, made an offer, he accepted, went down South two weekends

ago to pick up the "Frantic Banana II". 06 2500 8.1,15k,couldn't believe we

got 15.2mpg at 60mph with that big Dude. Don't know about our old name

though, was okay with the green 95 Burb, but the co-pilot says it just don't

fit a white truck. Can't wait for Spring!!!

Anybody wanna buy a 95 3/4 454

Nice looking 8.1 white Burb. She'll do a fine job of guiding the Airstream. I also like your '95. We had a '96, an '01, and now have the '04 and '05.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to hear how Daisy fares while towing Lucy.

We also had a beloved '01; her name was Petunia. She was Victory Red 2500 LT with a 6.0 gas. We sold her at 145,000 miles when we got Olivia.

Nice score...I have to agree, Burbs are probably the perfect all-around vehicle. And you got a BB quadsteer-wow! We loved our 2 Burbs.

Surprised they had a 2wd up North?

Best of luck with the new TV,

Bill

A Chevrolet dealer in Flint, Michigan had taken Daisy in on a trade, held her on the lot for 40 days and then put her on Ebay. The salesman told me that 2wd Subs don't sell well in Michigan in the wintertime. The Ebay listing was about to expire with no bids when I saw it. The opening bid was $23,500. This was a fair price for a low mileage '04 2500 Sub. I let the listing expire, called the dealer and made a low ball offer of $20,600, figuring that they would come back with $23,000 or there abouts, which I would have taken. To my most pleasant suprise, they accepted the $20,600. I immediately gave them a $2,000 deposit on my Visa, and made arrangement to fly to Flint and rescue Daisy from the frozen north. Had it not been February in Michigan, I probably wouldn't have gotten Daisy.

I probably wouldn't have gotten her either if the dealer hadn't made a simple error when listing Daisy on Ebay. The Ebay listing had Quadra Steer as two words instead of the proper Quadrasteer. This meant that the listing didn't come up in the Quadrasteer section. I found Daisy's listing while going through the Sub 2500 listings. I know from experience that Quadrasteer Subs don't last long on Ebay. I had missed on in Texas a week earlier when someone "bought it now" while I was make a bid.

The stars just lined up right, and Daisy and I were meant to be. If she hadn't been a 2wd, and they hadn't mispelled Quadrasteer, Daisy would belong to another.

Yes Tim, we're still going to Maine. We're planning on leaving the last week of April and returning home the first week of June. We're planning on spending most of the time in the Maine back country around Moosehead Lake and up into Baxter State Park and beyond. We hope to do a lot of kayaking, and see a whole bunch of mooses on the remote lakes. I do plan to chronicle this adventure with daily posts and lots of pictures. I posted so many pictures last year that I was afraid that the Moderators were going to revoke photo privileges. Since I slipped through the net, I'll do it again.

Then in September, we're headed back to the Big Horn National Forest in Wyoming, and look for some of our moose friends from last year. Then it's down to the 4CU Balloon Fiesta Rally in October.

Brian
