My REAL Tow Vehicle
Just purchased a new to me 2005 Chevy 1500 Crew Cab. Infinately more towing capability and power that the Trailblazer just didn't have.
Anyone else have one, and can let me know how it works for them?

Hey, nice tug Steve! So... you think you'll need that to tow your little jewel?
BTW, have you figured out what you're going to do with that bath yet?

I drive a 1500 sometimes at work as well as a trailblazer. I'll take the silverado anyday. More power!
Now, what are you going to pull with it?

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Roger,
The Caravanner has been sold to a lady in England. No Airconditioning makes for a not so happy camping trip. Due to the bath contruction, AC was unable to be installed.

Steve---Nice looking truck. We tow with a 2005 1500 Yukon. The 22ft CCD with a 5000# GVW is near the upper end of "comfortable" towing.

Oh, bummer! Fifties and early sixties vintage coaches are fun, but the late model coaches have a lot more in the way of amenities... no doubt there!
Good luck on your hunt! I'll let you know if I see something worthwhile in this neck of the woods... anything in particular you've got in mind?

I currently tow my 21' GT with my 1500 Xtra cab, I towed my 25' Safari prior to that. It has the small V-8 which does fine as long as I don't get in a hurry in the Sierras. You'll do great unless you wind up with a 34'...or something else big.

This is the 5.3 liter V-8, so it should have the power to pull. Lucky for me the only mountains we have here in Missouri are the Ozark hills.
Steve
Roger,
Anything really. Really looking for a nice condition unit that will offer full amenities (Furnace, AC, Gray tank, etc).
Currently thinking about a 2006 CCD I saw, but there is a 2005 25 foot SS here locally. GVWR on the 25' is 7300 so I would think it is a little high for me.

You will be doing fine with anything up to and around 5000lbs. At that, get used to RPM's..it's a strong motor, but it will spool going uphill while towing. I tried a Suburban with the 5.3, towing a 5200lb Tradewind.
The truck does have excellent brakes, someting completely amiss on my 5.7l Suburban.
I am not sure if it's a good idea to be looking at modern 25ft trailers to , they got very heavy over the years. I think that 7300lbs would overtax the Silverado 1500.

Congrats on the new TV. It looks like a beautiful rig. My buddy in the engine resale business tells me the 5.3 is one of the best engines they have seen in a long time. Very durable and dependable, good mileage and they seem to have few issues with them. Good choice on your part.

Way to go Steve, this will open up more options for you in trailer choices. After towing with your Trailblazer you will appreciate the improvement.

i was thinking of getting a key lock box like they use in commercial buildings. the spare would go in there and the box keys sure are cheaper. unlocking the door? i'd use a hidden switch to trip the power locks.

Steve,
I'll be real interested in hearing how the 5.3 does towing. I'm considering getting one in an extended cab GMC, but also considering the 3/4 ton with the diesel engine. Just hate to part with that much money if it's not necessary. The 4.7 liter Dodge pickup I'm now driving is just not enough with our 23' if we ever get into the mountains.

Steve,
Foy your current rig, I would say that a 5.3 will be plenty. My friend has the diesel 3/4 ton and uses it to haul 17,000 lbs of horses and trailers around in a gooseneck. This engine is powerful enough to drag the heavy little trailer around.
