Update!

2017 Powerwagon. I saw this, and I think I am in love! I normally buy late model used, but this could tempt me into a bad decision. lol

Just don't understand who thinks that 2016 appearance package with a red grille is something anyone would want.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I agree with you on the red accents on the grill. I didn't like it either, so I picked up a PW with the Laramie trim. You can get can black accents on the grill with certain colors. Anyway, I am not to sure about the new looks. Reminds me of a Rebel on steroids. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I prefer the stealthy look.

My observations of a Power Wagon as a tow vehicle

If I wasn't so happy with our '12 Ram CTD I'd definitely buy a Power Wagon. It doesn't get any better mileage but the exhaust brake is really nice to have when going through the Rockies.

BTW, the 56 gallon Titan fuel tank really helps things along (normally only have to refuel once a day when we're on the move).

Agree 100%. Pretty sure you can delete that on models that come with it.

It is only easy if you buy a different grill. Otherwise choose your colors carefully with the SLT trim. Some come with the black accents. Or you could go with the Tradesman or Laramie and not worry about it.

My German Shepherd owns a Power Wagon! I love being able to tow with one of the best stock off-road vehicles in the world.

Well, I'm about to join this club. Trading in the truck, already have my offer, they are transferring the truck we want from a different dealership. Little bit of process, but I'll return with photos soon Right now we feel like kids who are waiting for the last week before Christmas to end.

Interesting that the Power Wagon 2500 has approximately the same cargo capacity as the RAM 1500 Crew Cab, nearly 1000 pounds less than the 2500 Diesel Crew Cab. Is the Hemi the limiting factor?

Zybane, is that color on your PW Black Forest green? If so, that is slick!

BoldAventure, I did not think that you would trade your 1500 on a PW. Are you getting a 2016 or the new 2017 with the blacked out bumpers and grill? Which trim did you decide on?

Interstateflyer, the limiting factor on the PW are the springs. They give a nicer ride on the road and almost 2 feet of articulation off road. The springs also give the PW a 2 inch lift over the standard 2500. That said many people believe that the PW is under rated for what it can carry. I've had my PW at 2/3rd's of its capacity and the springs did not move at all. I am not saying that these trucks should be overloaded, but I am one of those people who think the PW is under rated by about 500 to 800 pounds.

Really looking forward to seeing pics of your new PW! Also will be interested in the payload. I just went through selecting a new full size truck last year. Really wanted the PW or Raptor (we live in the desert southwest and could have a lot of fun in the Raptor when not towing!) Have always been impressed with the PW's offroad credentials. I just decided for most of the offroad driving we do in NV, UT and AZ we need a smaller rig and will continue to use our 2010 Xterra for those trips (without the AS of course). Had to eliminate the Raptor based on towing chops although we are only pulling a 19' International and probably could have been okay with the Raptor. BTW...we saw the AEV Prospector in person last year at the Overland Expo in Flagstaff and it was SWEET!! You can always add some AEV parts to your new PW. Congrats on the addition!!

Ultimately we went with a new aluminum body F150 Lariat. This is my daily driver as well and we now have 21k miles after eight months of ownership. While not a PW or Raptor it has been exactly what we needed for towing and as a road trip vehicle throughout the west.

We have good friends towing their 23D with a Raptor, they just upgraded from a 19.

Payload on the Raptor is marked down because of the softer suspension. I mostly concern myself with axle and tire ratings more so than payload.

I would love a new Raptor, but it's just not going to fit our lifestyle. I would love the new Power Wagon, but really it's just the front end I like. I can get the same truck now for nearly 20K less than new, so I am.

Besides, that AEV bumper is only 2K.
