Mini Tow Vehicle

With the price of fuel being what it is do you think we'll soon be fielding inquiries about towing anything Airstream with something similar to this little puppy? smart USA - open your mind to the car that challenges the status quo

My gues is that there will be questions about alternative fuels.
before a can I tow my 34 ft wide body with a smart.
For the old diesel users , these things run good on (used) vegatable oil.
I used to have a 1986 VW rabbit 1.6 L turbo diesel.
In summertime I mixed 75 % vegatable oil with the diesel.
With minor mods you can run 100 % veg oil.
My other cars are converted to propane 1/3 of the price of petrol.

NO! But....

I have a long bed 08 Silverado 2500 diesel.... Now could I ramp one up in the bed and have a local runaround vehicle when I tow?

Maybe you could harness a few of them like a dog sled - put a lawn chair on the hitch and sit there with a whip.

seriously... I first saw the smart in 1998 in Italy. It was love at first sight. But then again I was living in DC at the time (yes, I lived in the District.) So, it really made sense to have a car like that in the city. Now that we're in the wild and wide open spaces of New Mexico I want something a little bigger. I like my F-150. I guess I'm just a left-of-center-redneck at heart.

There has been a recent thread or two on this car, with one member possibly planning on making the purchase. Looks interesting, but not as a TV . Unless that's Towed Vehicle.

If the cars were automatics, you could do as the railroads do, and lash several of them together with a common throttle and brake. I would be interesting to watch 4-5 of the little critters dragging a 34' trailer down the road ...

So the hitch setup for three rows of two smarts?

You would have to spread the tounge weight between the STV's (Smart Tow Vehicles)

You should have enough power. 6 STV's give you 420 HP and 408 ft/lbs.
But your mileage may suffer, 40 mpg devide by 6 = 6.7 mpg, not good.

It would be an impressive site, a team of 6 silver STV's with a smiling streamer sitting on the propane cover, Yeeee Haaw!

It might look something like this:

(a true classic, forgive me if you've seen it before)

Hi, this little car might be just right for the new, for 2010, 7' Airstream.

Idatarod???!!! Inasmuch as I love Alaska, the thought of watching a dogsled race - even on TV in front of a fireplace - makes me shiver from the cold!

The website is cool though (no pun intended)
