I like it just like the CB I used to turn down at 2 am because of the chat that happens. I am also an EX over the road driver but now stay local. The great thing is all the opinions are right and that is what makes the world go round.

Yes cameront. About three years ago we stopped towing with the Nissan van because the mileage was getting up there and we wanted to experiance another ride.

So many folks in the area here were towing with cars so we decided to try it too. The stability and control is just great. Been very happy with the pro set up from Can Am. The Nissan built V6, VQ series engines are very powerful and reliable.

Just kidding. The knowledge base here is very impressive. My baby just arrived. 2006, 28ft International. It has stabilization bars. I've had the Mercedes to the dealer and they had a specialist in to reinforce the hitch and have installed brake controller. The guy who delivered the trailer, said he has towed everything imaginable and this was the nicest thing he has ever towed. He said he drove through major storms and he didn't feel a thing. It will be two weeks before we get to try it out. I'm excited.

Thanks for the update. Sometimes, regardless of theory, the proof is in the pudding so to speak.

good follow up, it reads like u are doing things right...

but u might wanna take a test drive hooked up, even if only around the block.

because there is another issue, not covered in this thread but COMMON to the euro suv/'stream connection.

the t-rex, cayenne, bmw, audi electronics harness control OFTEN doesn't play well with the domestic trailer LED brake lights...

i think it also applies to the merc' but that's just a guess.

this issue (euro suvs electronic setup) has been covered WELL in other threads and the correction is pretty straight forward...

but not something u wanna deal with on the first day of a big trip.

and don't forget the pictures and trip story...

My '05 ML500 works fine with the LED taillights. But a test drive in the neighborhood sounds like a good idea. Enjoy!!

Thanks for the info. Mercedes alerted us to this and we have order a part from Valley Industries.

So how did the trip go? I've got a 320 ML (CDI) and am considering an airstream. Probably a 20'. From what I'm reading that shouldn't be a big deal at all.

We first towed it without the stabilization bars and I could really feel the tailor. Once the bars were on, it is great. We drove about 300 miles, through some mountains and really didn't even feel the trailer. The engine didn't strain in the least going up some pretty steep inclines. We only got to camp for a couple of days. We ended up getting a puppy. That was not in the plans. Cut the trip short and haven't been out again. We have plans for a trip this weekend with the pup. I really will get pics this time. Not sure i will know how to post them.

Impressive, a 28 ft trailer with a GL. Not bad. So my ML will surely be able to handle a 20' trailer. Good to hear. I do plan on using weight equalizer bars.

mercedes does make a good deisel engine. I wonder if you have the 5 cylinder or 4? Drive carefull

It's actually a V6 Commonrail Diesel Injection (CDI). They are quite poweful with a turbocharger. Almost 500 foot pounds of torque. Rivals allot of V8 gas engines.

I've said a million ties before, but just so you don't have to look: My ML500 pulls my 20' Safari great.

For sure.... Last year we traveled with a couple that had a pro set up ML350 and a 25+ newish Airstream Safari. They just loved the way it towed and traveled with it quite a bit. We followed them for a number of hours and it looked great on the twisty roads and hills.

Are you happy with your 320 CDI? I am considering one myself and am curious if it could handle a 25' Safari SE. thanks!

It is a wonderful machine and has absolutely no problem towing our 25ft internaitonal. I really like the automatic rear door and automatic fold down seats. Makes like so much easier when your arms are loaded. The only thing I don't like is we take the dogs with us and it seems a crime to cover the interior in dog hair and drool. I didn't put a mat down the first time and am having a lot of trouble getting the dog hairs out of the carpet. Other than that it is just a sweet machine, towing or not.
