Maranda X230 shell

These look cool. Anyone have one? In order to cut down the drag there's more to address.

Maranda X230 shell

It'll help while travel trailer towing to some extent to have an upward taper style, but it'll exact a toll in solo driving. The side sail area (length and height) is huge, so expect some changes in handling dynamics as well.

The only true aerodynamic shape tapers down from cab to tailgate. Search Aerolid for an example on this forum and elsewhere.

All that said it is very good looking as to apparent construction quality.

The most aero conventional topper will closely follow truck dimensions and be no taller than the cab. Side sail area increase is noticeable at times and mpg is usually a wash. Examples from Leer and ARE.

Maranda also offers such. I bookmarked it years ago and though not strictly body hugging, it's high price made it unlikely for me. I just don't need to remove the complete body.

One buys a topper for all weather security. It may be that a different configuration such as the Highway Products Pickup Pack could suffice. MPG will be somewhat improved over an uncovered bed and SS area resistance would be nil.

The most aero of this type are to be seen on Terminix pickup trucks. This type also preserves rearward vision through cab rear window.

I am wondering about the weight of those beasts. I have a mid rise top on my F350 dually and a tonneau cover on my F150. I was looking at putting a cab level cover on the F150, but probably won't on the current one.

I'm envisioning something that telescopes up like the x230 for towing and back down horizontal for solo. I don't have room or equipment to build one just dreaming. Maybe if the Aeorlid would go past horizontal to the upward angle that would work? There's going to be alot of force on it though.
