I picked my 11 F350 up last Thursday morning and put a little over 100 miles on it. Friday morning I couldn’t wait any longer and hooked up the Airstream! I was told by my dealer and a close friend who is a Ford Diesel tech that they really didn’t have a break in period… I put a little over 400 miles towing over the last 3 days and all I can say is WOW!!! The truck is absolutely amazing, any second thoughts I might have had about buying the truck went out the window. I took it easy cruising around 65/70 and got between 12 and 15 towing my heavy 30 classic s/o, with nothing hooked I was getting 18/22. I even got a chance to play with the rear dif locker in some sand, pretty cool feature. The list goes on and on of all the cool stuff these new trucks have, so far I love it!


Oh anyone looking for a super clean 06 power stroke 4x4 King Ranch, I guess I need to get rid of one now )

Of course some folks would say this was overkill and should be towing with a Prius, but I think you chose well!

Some folks might call it over kill… but I call it just right. And hey this thing is kind of/sort of like ‘’going green’’ it will run on B-20 diesel. Ok not really go green at all…


I guess I’m just not a Prius kind of guy, But I’m glad that some are. There needs to be a balance

Ok MPG update,...When I rolled out of the driveway 2 weekends ago to go Dove hunting, I had 903 miles on her. I consistanly got 14mpg there and back. Small hills but had a crosswind over 25miles per hour on the return. I can't stress enough about how easy this was to tow compared to my 2007 6,0 diesel. Which I took to Florida 2 months ago and got 11mpg. So this early on I got a 3 better mpg!! Keep in mind this is WITHOUT the New Flash upgrade Ford did yo my truck last week. Which Ford says will give you 2% better mpg. But my truck only has 2,000 miles on it now, so it will only get better. When I drive normally 70-75, all highway not towing I'm getting 21-23 mph. Which is awesome.

Back to the towing aspect,...NIGHT and DAY between my 2007 6.0 and this 2011. I swear, no white knuckles when semi's passed. No pucker factor when the gusts were blowing between the canyons. The FORD built sway Control IS amazing. I didn't feel like the trailer was there at all. Uphill, downhill in traffic...It's a new breed of truck and I can tell you first hand, it's worth every penny if you tow a lot. Or even a little. It's like riding in a limosine. One of the best decisions I have made in a long time...Well minus buying the Airstream, of course.


I need more trips and time.

r u suggesting that while towing this was happening?

it's a system like electronic traction/skid control

that incorporated the abs and use a yaw sensor along with the other inputs...

but IF it is actually engaged, an idiot light flashes AND u will feel the slowing/wheels braking...

till the 'sway event' is controlled or over.

hopefully u didn't really trigger this system.

Thanx for the update , Shane. I'm watching your experience closely. I'm glad to hear that you got 14 towing. An mpg figure like that can make me put the diesel back on the top of my list.

All I'm saying is there was a huge difference in TV's. I felt the wind move the stream with my 2007 and didn't while towing with this one. Maybe it's the ride. My 6.0 DID NOT have sway Control. Maybe it's the suspension on the new 2011...But SOMETHING definatly helped.

it's probably the paint, that new one is a more stable color...

or maybe the grill, it's a big ol'sucker now.

seriously, the suspension has been improved

and the body now has elastomer mounts that are MUCH improved.

plus new trucks are just tighter right?

it's all good.

Does Ford have a locker for'11? Or is it a limited slip. In the past I thought that was a GM thing. Is is an Eaton?

am i correct that the new ford as dpf and urea injection?what did the dealer tell you about fuel additives and maintenance of this scorpion motor?that is one sweet looking truck.best of luck with it.my legs almost buckled when i saw the list price on these new trucks.my brother who is a ford tech told me ford is recommending the performance additive on my 6.0 diesel now,i wonder what cetane this new motor requires to run correctly?my truck has been flawless,but thats because my brother does all the maintenance and i have run fuel additives from day one.also my truck is completely stock based on his recommendations.my advice is get a good diesel tech so that you have confidence that the maintenance gets done when it is suppossed to.lack of this will kill any of the new diesels in short order.these trucks are really sophisticated,complicated machines.

Yes it does have a locker, well my 4x4 does. Just pull the button on the 4x4 knob.It is a 390.00 option, though.

I had a 7.3 198,000 miles and a 6.0 80,000 miles and no addatives. Never used them and I won't. Ford has always been good to me and I don't exspect this one to be any different.

On the maintenance side, my truck has a oil life indicator. Tells me when I need the oil change. Now a 5,000..or 7,500 mile oil change is a thing of the past. So if not towing or extended idle times it should save money in the long run.
