Congrats, Shane - many happy miles to go with that rig. As for your trade-in; you meant 20,000 not 2,000 - right? Your "old" rig looked pretty good to me!

So far so good.

Great TV Shane. Love the MPG too. Is this F350 with 3:55 gear ratio, 21.4 mpg Not towing is great and I'm thinking of trading my 09' F450 (9mpg). Thanks.

Your "savings" from list price will more than pay for: a PULLRITE hitch and conversion of the trailer brakes to disc.

You mean the difference between what you owed on the vehicle loan and what that gave you credit for in the trade. In other words you were not upside down on your trade.

Neither, Its a F250 with 3.31 gear ratio, Thats how I ordered it.

BTW, my 2007 F250 6.0 diesel I was getting 11 mpg towing. I will know more after this coming weekend.

this might be how you ordered it...

but the 3.31 is STANDARD this year on all SRW 250/350s...

and the only 'optional' rear end on the SRW trucks is the 3.55

which typically is LINKED to the trucks with the optional 20 inch wheels/tire package ...

both (3.31 and 3.55) should help some with fuel economy, but 20 mpg is driving with a tail wind, downhill.
_______

it's not needed really to tow ANY a/s trailer but the 3.73 is only available on DRW trucks for 2011.

cheers

IF you got a ELECTRONIC LOCKING REAR END which is a new option this year...

that will cost ~375.00$ and it's not the same as 'limited slip' which we all used to order.

the ELECTRONIC LOCKING rear end is a good thing

again the standard on all of the SRW trucks is 3.31 NON LOCKING.

check your windo sticker for the code/words/price, it will be ONE of the 3 listed below...

basically there are 3 ways to get the rear ends this year...

1. non locking is standard
2. limited slip is a cost upgrade...
3. ELECTRONIC locking is the new thing and ~400$.

the ratio (3.31 or 3.55) is not really the PRICE item, the limited slip or electronic locking are the cost options.

cheers

yeah denny those are the specs for all available options...

but now try BUILDING a diesel truck with anything other that 3.31 and watch what happens...

most combos will CHANGE the engine to the gasser, which does have more rear options.

i've got the DEALER BOOK in hand, for builds/special orders and can look this stuff up.

for example the specs show the 4.3 rear too, but THAT is only available in the dually and 450 this year.

it's very deceiving because it LOOKS like we can order any combo (gear ratio and limited/locking) in all the trucks...

but the rears are tied to models (2/3/450) now AND to tire size...

for example IF you want the 3.55 rear in REQUIRES the 20 inch tire/wheel upgrade (another 1700$)...

the only way to get the 3.55 withOUT 20s,

is to add the SNOW PLOW PREP package, which then allows 18 inch wheels.

that makes no sense (most of us won't be plowing snow) but it's a fact.

it's very confusing, but having spent nearly 20 hours just on ordering/specs options i can report that...

it ain't easy to sort out or select odd combos...

some of the PRIOR years 250 features are now only available on 350s...

ordering is a LOT of FUN, but the dealer computer controls it...

heres another example, they offer 2 tone paints with the lower color being either silver OR adobe...

silver only comes with BLACK interiors but adobe can be had with camel, black or kings ranch interiors...

cheers

YUP, it tokk awhile, Maybe I got confused. I hope I did well on the decision to get the 3.31. A friend of man the day before bought a 3.55 almost identical to mine and drove to Tenn from Texas and he says he's getting 18mpg. I 'm getting 21-22 mpg on the highway. Can't be that much difference,...right?

the 3.31 will CLEARLY come with the best POTENTIAL fuel economy.

and the ELECTRONIC LOCKING is a great choice for most of us, now that it's available again.

given ford has BOOSTED the hp/torque, this OFFSETS the 3.31 rear.

it's doubtful you will notice ANY performance loss, especially compared to the 6.0.

for towing the 3.31 will be plenty fine.

i'm guessing it has 18 inch tires/wheels too?

since my trailer is close to 11,000 lbs, i WANTED the 3.73 and couldn't have it on a srw diesel ...

cheers

Yup 18's. Thanks.

Also with the "Chip upgrade" after Sept 1st,...Ford is predicting 2% better fuel milage. 400hp and 800lbs torque.

Getting better all the time.

I wonder how long it will be before there is a US produced diesel engine rated at 1000lbs torque in a 2/3/450 truck??

2 year, my guess.

Love the truck.

even the 6.0 and 6.4 are capable of 500hp/1000 ft/lbs torque.

the oem chip/programming balances power against durability.

the exhaust/dpf and current emissions standards are the bottleneck.

but remove the dpf, and with many aftermarket chips 500/1000 PLUS happens daily
____________

so the 6.7 is certainly capable of 1000 ft/lbs torque now.

these ford 6.7 diesels are manufactured in chihuahua mexico.

and other parts are made worldwide...

the trucks are assembled in kentucky.

it's a global thing.

cheers
