Looking to purchase a 2003 Silverado 1500HD

I wouldn't mind getting the 8.1L in a Tahoe, but the only choices are pickup or Suburban. Anyone know why?

Tahoe is a 1/2 ton vehicle with a relatively short wheelbase. I don't know its towing ratings but I don't see how they can be comparable to towing ratings of a 3/4 ton truck.

FWIW, the people I got my A/S from told me they towed this 32' Excella with a Tahoe. I did not inquire about the details but don't think it ever came with anything bigger than the 5.7L engine and 3.73 rear (as the lowest rear). So I know it *can* be done but not sure I want to try something like that with my '32 unit.

Also Chevrolet 1500 HD is like base 2500 - is that still true? Older Ford vehicles were like that. They should abandon the whole 1500/2500 hierarchy and just rate them based on actual tons, GCWR I suppose.

Especially in relation to the invoice or sticker. ie (or is it eg) $500 over invoice or $3000 off sticker.
