Ummm... I'm sure they both seem to be good trucks by all reports. Odds are that when I buy a truck it'll be a Ford, though likely an F150 rather than an HD. However, I think you're assuming facts not in evidence about the whole "Government Motors" reason for people choosing Fords over GM products. I'm sure there are some who'd do it, but that doesn't make it a trend. I think the scienceNerd line is "anecdote != data."
In a hypothetical situation where all evidence pointed to the GM product being a significantly better truck but the subject bought a competitively-priced Ford just because of the bailout, I'd say the subject cut off his nose to spite his face.

The last time I bought a new truck, I looked at and drove a new Ford. First, I wasn't impressed with the many year old body style (I don't even know how far back it goes). Second, I'll admit I have a bad back, but I drove the truck about 1 1/2 miles (it was a really nice 1/2 ton with the leather and everything), but anyway, when I got back to the dealer, I thought the salesman was going to have to help me out of the truck because my back hurt so bad. The seat was just impossible for me to get comfortable in. May be a good truck, but that seat was a killer.
Drove my GMC 3/4 ton almost 15,000 miles on a trip last summer to Alaska, and the seat was very comfortable all the way.
YMMV

For 2011\2012 - they are both great trucks - based on who is doing the review (and requirements of advertising dollar) will result in the choice of a winner...
Great time to be purchasing a Super Duty \ Heavy Duty Truck (unless your a Ram fan)...
BTW - if the Ford won then I would say the Review was spot on of course.....
