I bought and installed the flip up mirrors on my 2001 Dodge (seen in the pictures) as it did not come with trailer mirrors even though it had the tow package. Not that expensive and a BIG difference in visibility. As for 4x2 vs 4x4, we don't take the AS down logging trails or mudding in the Great Dismal Swamp, but we do go to some favorite campgrounds that are hilly and wooded, with dirt (mud) roads; and also to a folk festival every year where we park out in a great open grass parking lot at an old fairground. It *always* rains at folk festivals, at least in the Northeast, and when it is time to leave on Sunday night or Monday morning your rig has usually sunk about 4" into the soft, wet ground. You have just one shot at take off - you get it moving and keep it moving, or you dig a rut and sit there. Having 4x4 with the weight of that Cummins sitting over the front axle has made *all* the difference in the world each year... ;-)

Thanks for everyone's suggestions and comments.

We just bought a 2014 Ram 2500 6.7L diesel Crew Cab Laramie. Rated to pull 17,500 pounds, so taking our 30 Excella up the California mountains should not be a problem.

We sure appreciate all the input. It helps us a lot as we looked for the perfect TV for us.

Congratulations! I have a 2013 2500 RAM Diesel -- can couldn't be happier. Tow my 25FB and no issues. Also for the RAM - consider adding step in back of truck that you can pull down. Helps immensely with getting in and out of bed. Happy Airstreaming.

Any suggestions on a brand or model?

Saw the step in this thread and ordered one for my Ram 2500 4x4. Thanks for the tip. That tailgate is a long ways up.

Got the step installed. Nice. But now I can run the Rock tamer mud flaps and use the step. I am going to ditch the mud flaps for our trip this summer so I can use the step. But that is something to think about if you are considering adding the step.

You can probably use both. I can mount the Rock Tamers on the horizontal portion of the shank or the vertical portion. Seems like you could mount them both.
