While it is true that one must be aware, it is also true that not every hiker gets eaten by a bear. Jim

What a great combination you have. We should see beautiful photo from RC soon. Perhaps you also have one of your set up? Jim

Hey everyone,
I really appreciate all the advice, in many forms, and have a 2015 Jeep JKU. I'm going to, of course, have the AS weighed before trying to make my jeep haul it around. What I am understanding the most is the WIND factor which sounds pretty huge. When the shop is open (hopefully next month) I'll use the jeep to tow it around town and see how she does (again, weight permitting). I'm not attempting to go cross country with it until I feel safe or have to buy a used tow vehicle on the cheap).

Safety is my priority but, I'm still going to attempt to use the Jeep in town for the first few tows (with the slight modifications). I will keep everyone updated with pictures and honestly document any problems I run into.

Better put the biggest transmission cooler on there you can. The stock one will NOT suffice.

Also, get an OBDII bluetooth connector and download "Torque" for your Android phone so that you can have a range of gauges to monitor including real engine coolant and transmission temperatures. You will need to know these temperatures and monitor them closely.

Remove the plastic engine cover from your Pentastar. It holds a massive amount of heat on the engine that needs to be able to escape. Otherwise, that heat just cooks the engine. The engine cover is simple to remove; it just pops off. It serves no purpose. When it's off, listen for the "sewing machine" ticking noise from the driver's side of the engine bay. If (and when) you hear that ticking, you will need a new driver's side head.

Make sure to check your rear end fluid. The rear differential is tiny on these Jeeps from the factory. Mine started to whine towing my 13ft Scamp up hills. A finned aluminum rear end "pumpkin" cover/cooler would help not only for additional cooling but also because the rear end will hold more fluid that way.

Good luck! Make sure to film it if your transmission overheats so we can see it here.
