No need to pull the mirror at all. Look on the inside of the door, at the front, just below the window, and you will see a small triangular panel. This panel pops right off, no tools needed, and you can see the wiring harness from there. You just never know what you will find as far as wiring though. Pretty weird since Toyota was the forerunner of standardization (Lean principles).
And it was a CIPA that blew off on the bridge. I just could never get it to fit right I guess...

good luck!

Thanks Chuck

popped it off and I have three wire harness... so now i guess i'll have to figure out what exactly that will do for me....

if the mirrors will fit, im not all that worried about motorized mirror unless of course you can't adjust them manually.....

Try the Tundra forums...lots of info on there about this. Of course this could be an opportunity to just go get something brand spanking new! (chuckle)

Ummmm, I'm afraid DW expects my new green 2011 Tundra to make it more than 6 months lol

i may try Tundra Forums and see if anyone has had any luck with the 3 wire harness.... either that or i need to send my passenger side CIPA back and ask them to send me one that you don't need to be Hercules to tighten....

Just to bump the thread.

Got my OEM Tundra Tow mirrors installed at Toyota of Rockwall today. Base grade 2011 Double Cab, 3 wires, no problem installing and power adjustment works, so that's all i really need. They matched the TRDSparks online price on the mirrors and I didn't even have to convince the service department that they could indeed be installed on the 3 wire harness.

Now I can't wait for the triple digit temps to go away so I can take the AS out for a spin with my new mirrors. Anyone want to buy a passenger side CIPA? lol Don't ask where the driver side one is.

Dana

Glad you were able to get it done! And if anyone wants to know where his driver side CIPA is, send me a pm...

That's good news. I had never heard of anyone having issues swapping Mirrors. I bought my 08 Doublecab TRD last summer and swapped my regular mirrors for the towing mirrors off a Lease return myself at the dealership. It was super easy.

Chef, either on this thread or others that discuss the tow mirrors issue, it appears Toyota has different wiring harnesses to the mirrors on different Tundra models—some with 3 wires, and some with 8, and maybe something in between. Some dealers tell people wrong info about swapping mirrors. In some years it may be that Tow mirrors are extra with certain packages and other years they were standard with the same packages. The whole thing has been very confusing and you have check and doublecheck about it.

Glad to see Dana has solved his problem.

It looks like I might have been able to do better on the price of the mirrors on ebay but I really didn't want there to be any guesswork and if I had it done at the dealership at least I could hold them responsible for it being the right installation of OEM equipment with no surprises. So sometimes you pay a little more for what you want.... kinda like an AS lol

My son in law bought some off e-bay. They vibrate quite a bit. Some knock off brand. I think you were smart to go the way you did.
