I NEED TO TOW a 1966 SOVEREIGN 12 MILES

Hello…

I'm buying a 1966 Sovereign and need to tow it to my driveway. What truck is best to rent for this adventure?
Is there a certain size to handle this job?
I'm very new to this.

Thanks!

And the correct sized ball.
Functioning brake and turn signals.
Reasonably good tires.
Drive slow.

Good luck finding a truck you can tow with that isn't restricted by contract.

Might just be simpler and more cost effective to call a tow truck for a non-emergency call.

I agree with DanB, I've never seen a rental contract that didn't explicitly prohibit towing. It's my educated guess that a towing company would probably tow it 12 miles for less than $100.

Will it fit on a flatbed tow truck? A roll on? Jim

The rental truck will not have a trailer brake controller.
Hire someone to move it for you.
Call a neighbor. Call a friend. Buy a truck.
If I were there I would help, but I am a long, long way away.

I have a 66 and I agree,,,get someone to tow it for you. Or if you have a friend with a truck you need a 2" ball hitch.

Go on Craigslist and search the word "towing" under "Services" - "Labor & Moving" There are several people who are willing to help you tow a trailer with their trucks! I ran this search when I was trying to convince my hubby that we could go ahead and sell our tow vehicle before he had finished fixing up the Airstream we are selling. Now, if there is a reason that we need to move the Airstream, we can just find someone on CL to help for a pretty reasonable fee. Good luck!

Tow truck with pro driver is a good idea IMHO.

Looked at the poster's profile - 30 ft Sovereign. So that's too long for a liftback, unless you're talking about the kind of tow truck that can haul off a the trailer part of a tractor trailer. That's not something you'll get for $150.

Perhaps a tow dolly or a flatbed trailer pulled behind a standard tow truck would work. Definitely less fuss than changing out tires, greasing hubs, rigging running lights, and praying that there's no rear end separation or broken frame that will dump the back end of the trailer on the road.

Hope the frame or at least the floor is reasonably sound.

Paula

Everywhere I'm familiar with you can only legally tow Uhaul equipment with a uhaul truck.

no need to change tires grease hubs and all that for 12 miles. I towed my 66 that had sat i a field for 18 years, aired up the tires, went slow...30 mph for 45 miles. No problem.
The hubs still had lots of grease in there,,,where would it go?

A roll on or flat bed tow truck may work. The hitch to the wheels is the only length to worry about. That is much less thn thirty feet. Jim

Is this the Oak View near Santa Paula off Hwy 126?

If so, surely a SoCal Airstreamer can help this person out.
