Hummer H2.... Anyone use one to tow an Airstream?

Does anyone have any history or know of someone towing a Airstream 27' with a Hummer H2? The trailer capacity is 7000 lbs. and it is stock with a GM 6.0 gas engine.

Any constructive comments or experience welcome.

We are currently looking to make a purchase and have found a 1977 27' model.

Respectfully,

IB

H3, beautiful? This must be one of those "eye of the beholder" things.

H3 is pretty cool

was looking at new ones and jeep liberty diesel. If h3 had little 4cyl diesel I would have purchase one. I do prefer it over suv jeeps.

H2 is pretty much a Tahoe, is it not?

The H2 is a chop-shop amalgamation of the front-end of a 2500, the rear end of a 1500 with it's own mid-frame components. So, it's a relative of a Tahoe, in the way that the GM trucks/SUV's of any vintage overlap a lot.

It is no relation to the H1 at all... other than in name...

There are a ton of people that would buy a light-duty 1/2 ton diesel... if anyone would make one. Toyota killed their diesel for North America citing declining sales of diesel trucks... interesting...

I can say that the Hummer H2 will tow just about any trailer, but it really is a little gutless under the hood. A small trailer - no problem. But a bigger trailer would be a little slow on the hills, etc. With ours, meh, we get about 7-9 mpg. Better than our motorhome.
BTW - we tow a 27' Overlander with our hummer.

I think so too. My sis still has her H2 and I do not enjoy driving it at highway speed.

It you take the Tahoe and add a lot of bulk and weight, lift it, install huge tires, would it make it a better TV? Don't think so, unless your camping plans were off road / fire road boon docking.

Max payload 2,200 lbs with a towing weight of 6750 lbs for an H2.

So - 27 foot Airstream...

Add fuel (150 lbs), two adults and 800 lbs tounge weight of an empty Airstream (realistically - Airstream with propane, spare tire, hitch and lightly loaded 1,100 lbs) and your pretty much left with not too much in capacity...

But, it's do-able as the engin has 415lbs torque... Back of the napkin calculations but...

There are better choices, 4WD or not.
