In 2008 I invested $21K in stocks and tax free municipal bonds. I used part of that this year to pay cash for a NEW F350 6.7L Diesel 4x4 and the remaining bonds paying quarterly interest and stock dividends will pay for maintenance and fuel.

All That You Can Afford!

In my 40 plus years of towing just about everything that is towable, just about everywhere that you can tow, my experience has taught me one thing. You cant have too much truck! Get all the truck that you can afford, and if you cant afford that, then beg, borrow and steal enough to get the biggest, baddest truck made. If that's not possible, then don't tow! I don't want to see your picture on the news or in the paper, like those poor souls in ID!

Somehow you make paying 60K for a pickup truck sound sane....

Experimenting with new tow vehicle that is more sustainable (renewable energy) but discovered this version produces unwanted waste, half the hitch team is lazy, and no good way to hookup a fancy sway control WD hitch.

No, stupid me... that would solve one of the problems with this set-up!

That was 1-1/2 year's depreciation on the last $60,000 pickup I bought. And I bought it 1-1/2 years old so someone else took the hit. Top that.

How Much Truck Do You Need?

In another year and a half, it will do it again....

Topped...

A new truck can be nice, but as a financial investment, maybe not.

If you did not buy an Airstream Trailer...

- you would not need the undersized or oversized Truck
- you would not have depreciation on the trailer or the truck
- you would save on licensing, taxes and insurance
- you would not spend as much on fuel
- you have more time off the Internet, not reading these Threads
- you could dream about owning an Airstream and a Big overpriced tow vehicle

naw.... none of us are that crazy.

These are consumables. You buy them and use them. They depreciate ONLY when you SELL.

None of us need to justify the cost of our new or used Airstream, new or used tow vehicle. Enjoy the 'fruits' of your labor. Make me a tart sweet Washington apple and leave it at that.

I have always heard of "the tail waggin the dog," but that is definitely the most "extreme example," that this ol country boy has ever seen!
