I have a question for the group about the F150 lane keeping feature. I tested it out yesterday on Interstate 5. Lane keeping has two parts, an alert and an assist. Reading the manual I understand the alert is supposed to shake the steering wheel. The assist actually steers the truck back into the lane.
I turned lane keeping on and saw the little dashboard icon light up. As I drifted towards the edge of the lane I could see the icon go from green to red indicating lane keeping engagement. The assist feature did work, it nudged the wheel back toward the middle of the lane.
My question is in regards to the alert. I felt nothing to a barely perceptible shake in the steering wheel. I even set the alert to high strength. I did set lane keeping to use both functions. For those of you that have and use this feature, does the alert shake your steering wheel hard?

Hi. Like yours, on our 2017 unit the steering wheel alert is fairly subtle, even when set to high. Best, Joe

F-150 backup camera & other towing features questions
Hey! Congrats on the new truck! I'm considering the 2017 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew to replace my 2013 F-150 XLT towing our 2015 Flying Cloud 25FB. I'm curious about the backup camera option that you can get with the new F-150. I know there's a camera with like a 30 foot cable that plugs into the back of the truck. Are you having someone install that for you? Or do you have some idea of who you're going to deal with that long cable? Is there a good way to tuck that away somewhere? Also, what about drilling holes in the AS for mounting the camera. I haven't yet drilled any holes in the exterior of my Airstream before and the thought of that makes me nervous.
Also, I'd be super interested to hear about any experience with the backup assist or other towing features on the new F-150 and what you think about how they work. Thanks in advance!

I've got a TPMS question for Ford F150 owners. Of course the truck comes with such a system for its own tires but is it feasible to connect the trailer tires to the same system? I have Tire Minder now that is cable of showing as many tires as anyone could imagine. The Ford system is internal so they probably only work with specific wheels and stem hole size. Chances are my original wheels would have to be changed but I would do that if needed.

I expect your 150 also has the feature where it produces some kind of alarm if you take your hands off the wheel for an extended period of time... Since they expect you to have at least one hand on the wheel, the "shake" is intended to be just enough to be noticeable, not startling.

Got a Brand New 2017 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew Today
The green to red is the visual showing the side. In question. Turn your setting to high and drive around town a bit around 45mph or so and you will feel it. Mine is quite noticeable. In curves with street lines it offers resistance.

I tried lane keeping some more today on the freeway. People around me must think I drunk as I keep swerving from side to side. The "Assist" feature, the part that turns the steering wheel back to the middle of the lane is quite effective. I once forgot to use my blinker (temporarily disables lane keeping) as I purposely changed lanes. I had to fight the steering wheel. So that part is working great.
The other half of lane keeping is the "Alert". It is supposed to shake the steering wheel as one drifts out of the lane. I tried Low, Normal, and High. Whenever one changes between mode's the wheel gives a test shake. I had to really concentrate to feel the Low shake. Same with Normal. On High I could feel it, but only if I'm waiting for it to happen. If I were drowsy I'd probably never notice it. I was expecting a vigorous shake.
I make take it to the dealer for service, maybe they can juice it up some. I spoke to the salesman yesterday but he admitted he never actually had the chance to use it in real life. They just read about it.

Exactly, that is the part I notice the most. The shake though is like running over something small- brief and rough.
What I would like to know is if they can alter or program the 2015/2016 model BLIS system to work with a trailer like the 2017 model. Prior to 2017, it disables itself when hitching a trailer.
@SailorSam205, yes the "Get your hands on the wheel" alarm is the door ding sound 5x. It is annoying because it will go off if you steer with partial hands.

I love this truck, I'm struggling to get the most payload I can. I'm getting ready to order.
I'll be towing a FC 30. Hitch weight is 800 lbs, add 180 for gas and I only have 680 lbs left for people and gear?
I guess that could work...

Update on the truck. After logging a little over 550 miles of city/highway milage the trip computer shows 20 MPG average. Im still on my first tank of gas. Says there's another 120 miles of range left to go.
The stop start engine technology works fine. I really makes sense to turn of the engine at red lights. The engine is usually running by the time my foot reaches the gas pedal. I added the Airstream as a trailer to it's trip computer but need to reach 1,000 miles before trying any towing.

No, Ford already deducts the fuel capacity weight from the payload. At least that is stated in my manual (2015). My payload is 1720 with 1000# tongue and it works.

The 360 degree camera feature is fantastic but it does not work underway. I installed my own Voyager wireless camera system on the back of the AS. Pick up the wiring via the middle running light. I posted my picks of using a rubber grommet in the lens. Later, when AS started adding them they drilled another hole to take the camera hookup to the underside. See post #109 on this thread

Toys have mass...
Well, I took delivery today. I guess my box-side steps cost me a couple of pounds, my stickered payload is 1636, 24 lb less than kscherzi's. I'll take it, though.

Nice truck! And good color choice too, it was on my short list. Look at my factory Cat Scale weight tag posted earlier. You'll have close to 2,000 lbs capacity over both axles. It's an awesome truck. Plan to spend days studying the owners manual. First you have to drive 1,000 miles before towing. I'm barely to 600. Be patient.

Looks like we have the same set up(I have the exact trailer as well). You will tow beautifully with this. I need to add bags to mine this year to account for the back end sag. other than that it's perfect. Congrats!!

You should not need air bags if your weight distribution hitch is strong enough to lift the load of your trailer tongue and the gear loaded in the pickup bed behind the rear axle. The capable w.d. hitch will correctly distribute axle loads, the air bags will not and may result in an overloaded rear axle, even though things look good. Always best to weigh the loaded combo on a CAT scale to verify axle loads.

Wow. You've got my vote for badass towing vehicle for 2017! What's the tow and hitch weight capacity. Also like the white paint.
