Got a Brand New 2017 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew Today

Took delivery of a special order F-150 today! My first new vehicle in 14 years. Its was special ordered last December. Since this is my daily driver its a balance between ideal tow vehicle and around town truck. I purposely avoided certain extras such as the sunroof/moon roof, FX4 package, and other tempting options to keep payload sensible. This truck does not have the heavy duty payload package as I did not want the longer wheelbase so it can fit in my garage. I think I struck a decent balance. Some specs:
  • Lariate SuperCrew 4x4 5.5' bed.
  • Second generation EcoBoost (375 hp, 470 torque) with the 10-speed transmission.
  • 502A Equipment group (top-end Lariate, leather, heated/cooled seats, navigation, chrome package, all the tech.)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Max Trailer Tow Package (various mechanical upgrades, 36 gallon gas tank, 3.55 rear end with e-locker)
  • Power extending/folding trailer mirrors
  • Tailgate Step
  • Technology Package (lane assist, parallel parking, trailer backup)
  • Spray in bed liner
  • Rubber floor mats
I just drove it home from the dealership and got 22.5 mpg according to the trip computer. Coming from 15 mpg on my existing vehicle this is a huge upgrade. I'm pretty happy. Now I need to study the 1.5" thick owners manual. Here's some photo's.

At the dealership.

Photo of dashboard on the drive home. Note the gear indicator (1 to 10). Only 558 miles to empty, that's the 36 gallon gas tank talking.

Payload sticker.

Looks good. I'm jealous. I ordered one almost exactly like it (same colors, options) except I opted for the HD payload. It's only been a week since I ordered so I'm in for a long wait.

Very nice. We have a 2013 Platinum that we picked up in November to pull our trailer. Our payload is 1160# if I remember correctly so I'm jealous there. We love it!

My 2013 is a near copy of yours, but I wonder why the GAWR has gone down on the new trucks? My front is 3525 (same as yours) but the rear axle weight rating is 4050. Mine has 20" wheels; I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Really nice looking truck, we like the chrome on white trim. I got a feeling the 10-speed transmission will have no trouble keeping the engine in the optimum speed for smooth power delivery and fuel economy. I think it helps with engine braking as well. I like the wheelbase for daily driving and the electronics for getting around, I would be lost traveling without it these days. The axles are rated a little lower than ours but not much so you should get a great ride while having plenty of axle load capacity. Adaptive cruise control, sure wish we had that.

It's beauty and looks like a perfect match to your Airstream and daily driving needs.

Likely Ford chose to derate it a bit when they reduced the weight of the truck. (15+ trucks are 500-700 lb lighter than a '14 and earlier truck with similar equipment.)

Well, I can't imagine that the rubber mats and adaptive cruise weigh much, so I guess that's about what my payload will be. I'm surprised that it's that low, given that I test-drove a King Ranch similarly equipped and it had a payload about 80 lb higher. I'm thinking now that it probably had the small fuel tank, 13 gallons of gasoline weighs right at 80 lb.

Congrats on a very nice truck! I especially like the 10 speed readout. Does the indicator show which gear the transmission is using at any given time?

Congrats! For me there is nothing like driving home a new vehicle, especially a new Ford Truck. My first ride was in my uncle's 1948 Ford truck and I've been a Ford guy ever since. My first new car was a 1978 Ford LTD 2. This past January I bought a new F-350 Diesel. It has become my everyday 'car' as well as TV for my new AS. Enjoy that new Truck!

The photo was on while on the highway, and the drive home about 50 miles, mostly highway and two lane road with occasional stoplights. It registered 22.5 mpg for that trip. I'm sure it will change. The EPA sticker says 20 mpg city/hwy mixed. This new engine also has stop/start. The salesman warned me but it still caught me off guard at the first red stoplight. Fired right up though the moment I lifted my foot off the brake.

Yes it does increment. It's a neat visual because there's very little shifting sensation or engine noise that would otherwise help indicate which gear. Plus, it shifts up really quick. At about 50 mph it was already in 10th. Sometimes it shifted in order (IE. 1,2,3,4...) and sometimes it skipped a gear (1,3,5...). The owners manual says the transmission "learnes" it's shift points for the first while when new.

Lovely!

I'm jealous! Wish it would fit in my 1920s era garage so I could have one too. . . . .
