All who commented on my list, thank you. I've looked at so many trucks lately they're all blending in together. I've got a dealer hot and heavy trying to sell me an F-350 King Ranch, but it's SO freaking loaded I'm afraid it will take away too much from the cargo capacity. Who really needs a padded leather console that looks like a saddle? Plus I think 50K for a 2013 is a bit much.

Plus it's a really butch looking truck, and I'm not FOD, "not that there's anything wrong with that"... Seinfield.

I'm from the 2500 silverado LTZ camp. My decision between bow tie and gmc was price. I can buy a Chevy at invoice or below but can't find the same on other brands. Plus, I like to order what I want, not what the dealer has.

I didn't know GM paired the Duramax with an 8 speed transmission. I thought it only came with the 6 speed Allison model?

Agree that the Chevys and GMCs are essentially the same, except for trim and the Denali versions of the GMCs have some dashboard goodies and such. I'd be content with either (I have had an F150 and F250 in the past and just have a preference for the way GM does things and how they look.) In the end, we really like our GMC dealer sales manager and the Sierra Denali HD Duramax/Allison they had coming in checked ALL the boxes in terms of features and set-up for towing. Running boards, awesome power folding towing mirrors, heated & cooled seats, engine braking, plenty of cargo weight capacity, factory sprayed bed liner, yada, yada, yada.

So... we went with the Denali HD diesel and find it to be a perfect match with a 30' Airstream. Absolutely LOVE the truck!




I'm sure I could be just as happy with a similarly equipped Silverado 2500 Duramax/Allison, as well. Just like the looks of the Denali a bit more. Either way, these are awesome trucks!

we are on the same search!!! we have looked and read so much about diesel trucks my eyes hurt!! And, since there doesnt seem to be a 2015 leftover out there with our specs, looks like we have to wait to order the 2016...the longer we wait, the more I read and look at different options, and change my mind...Today...right now...we will be looking at Ford, something that was not even a thought before but because I asked for input on another site, this was something suggested. So..we are looking. Previously we were pretty much set on Chevy 2500 HD diesel LTZ at a whopping 60,000 before any negotiating..

What is the price difference between a 2500 and 3500 - GMC or Silverado?

Can't seem to get "comparably equipped" pricing from any local dealer.

My boss bought a leftover 2015 Silverado High Country 2500HD Duramax/Allison- sticker $65,000, purchased for $62,000-
High Country is the Silverado equivalent of a Sierra Denali, but with brown leather like a Ford King Ranch or Tundra 1794.

The Ford Super Duty is the highest rated diesel of the big 3 and before you buy a Government Motors truck, you should at least try out a Ford diesel. You will probably change your mind and buy a Ford.

Any one of the big three is a fine choice, depending on one's individual preferences. None are necessarily "better" than the others overall... just differences which appeal to different people.

Tried the Ford. Like the GMC and Chevys better. The Ford has a little more power, but ultimately, the Duramax has all the power and more than I could possibly need. A small amount of additional power when you've already got gobs of it is meaningless as compared to other aspects which I preferred. Some like Fords, some like Dodges, some like GMs. It's General Motors, btw, not Government motors, though I know you're trying to get a dig in.

To the OP's original question: I think the GMC is trimmed out a little more nicely, equivalent model to equivalent model: e.g. GMC SLT vs. Chevy LTZ. I bought a GMC 1500 LTZ mostly because it had the unusual equipment combo I wanted (6.2 V8 + max trailer tow package). I've been very happy with this truck towing my FC 27 Airstream. Just completed a trip from DC to Stonewall Jackson lake state park in W.Va. which takes you through the highest town in the state (Davis) on 6 and 7 percent grades. Trip average fuel consumption was 12.8 mpg. Maintaining 60 mph had engine spinning over 3000 rpm only once, going uphill. "Grade logic" engine braking spun engine as high as 4500 rpm and maintained 60-65 mph with moderate application of service brakes on a few of the downgrades. At no time did the brakes get hot or smell. Admittedly, the premium gas this engine requires costs more than diesel fuel . . . But this truck gives me up to 24 mpg running empty at 60-65 mph. The max trailer tow package bumps the rated payload up 400 lbs. to 1960, per the door sticker.

Years and years ago there was a difference in that the GMC were more of a heavy duty vehicle. That has all gone away and like most have said it's a matter of badging and packages. I remember pricing a GMC and Chevy van with the same equipment. The dealer selling the GMC gave me a better deal. Both branded vans are built at the same plant here in the metro St. Louis area. I went to the plant for a tour and they run both brands on the same assembly line. A GMC may have a Chevy right behind. Same parts. Just trim and the badging.

I can't speak for the other GM trucks but at the tour we were told that customer orders take precedence over dealer inventory orders and were fulfilled within 2 weeks. Needless to say I placed my order at the dealership and my van built to my specs was delivered in 14 days from the order placement. I asked for the 6 liter gas engine with a 4.10 rear axle. I also asked that the passenger seat have all the same controls and features as a drivers seat.

Hey, in the last 32-years Ford got it right over a four year stretch. Too bad they didn't have a transmission for it, though.

Maybe this 4th Gen Bosch HPFP on the new Chihuahua motor won't bite them as hard as some reports have it.
