Hi, well sometimes it does make a difference. Chevy had a 350 Cu In engine and Ford had a 351 Cu In engine. That one little cubic inch changed brands. There were also 426, 427, 428, 429, and 430 cubic inch engines which meant different brands, and/or different engine families within the same company. Yes it really does make a difference to some of us.

The GM twin pickups are powered by the 2.8l duramax diesel 4 cylinder engine. They are equipped with a 6 speed automatic gear box.
I don't know who makes a 2.9l equipped pickup.

I currently drag my 71 Gt all over the Colorado Rockies with a 5.2, 99 Dakota with 175K miles. I love the size of the truck and I don't need anything bigger, just wish it had more torque. I have just started looking for it's replacement and the GMC Canyon/Chevy Colorado 2.9 Diesel is on my list. Maybe I'll just have a 3.9 Cummins dropped into it.
I wish I could test drive one with my GT hooked to the back and head up hiway 285 or I-70 here in Colorado.

Years ago I had a Nissan, later a Ford Ranger. I liked the size of them even though back then xtra cab and crew cab were not an option, and they were only good for towing a motorcycle trailer.
So again, I like the strength of my F250 SuperDuty, but I also like the size of the little trucks I've had - so the GMC/Chevy seems like a good blend of the two and spec-wise will do what we need.

An update for any Canyon or Colorado owners. Clearview Towing Mirrors http://www.clearviewmirrors.com.au from down in Oz now has towing mirrors available for our US trucks. The mirrors are $435, and $472.50 with indicators. Shipping via DHL came to $174, all in USD. Mine, with indicators, were at my door five days after placing the order.
I just installed mine yesterday, and have only driven around town so far, but really like the added visibility, look and quality . If anyone decides to order and need installation tips, send me a message. Without indicators, they could be installed in a few hours. Our trucks don't have indicator wiring to the mirrors, which is not hard to do if you have the skills, and adds another few hours to the install time. I wanted indicators for better visibility for other motorists, especially towing on multiple lane interstates in crowded cities.
We're right around 7000 miles on the truck now, and have towed our 19' Winick Bambi about 3000 of those. For me, it's the ideal match for our needs, and these mirrors just made it a whole lot better. I've been using those clip-on towing mirrors for many years, and so glad those days are over.

Very nice, thanks for sharing. I recently read that there is a 2nd generation of the 3.6l engine from GM for 2017 along with a 8 speed auto transmission. The diesel will stay with the 6 speed for 17

Icing on the cake ... the tiny standard mirrors were the only complaint.
Thanks!

Yep, tows my 19' OK but acceleration with the Hemi is probably better than the V6. When I trade for a 23' (lol) I will upgrade...

Drove the GMC Canyon diesel recently ... liked it ...
But in Mexico the Nissan Frontier diesel similarly equipped is about $14,000 cheaper.
