G.M. & Dodge [Ram] discounts?

Hi, what's up with the latest and greatest offering huge discounts? G.M. claims it's new 2014 model has better gas mileage than F-150 and Dodge claims highest towing capacity and highest torque rating on it's newest 2014 models. So if they are so great why are they offering discounts of over $7,000.00 on these new trucks?

Note: if Ford is doing the same thing, I haven't seen it on my TV.

Why are there deals being offered? Strong competition and somewhat flagging winter sales I suppose.

My recent truck purchase was one of the most pleasant 'negotiation' experiences I've ever had on a new vehicle. They (GM, in my case) are working hard to move stock.

more competition. The days of running to multiple dealers and wasting days may be numbered
I purchased my 2013 on the internet, Reasonable price, and delivered to my door.
Other than a few brief phone calls no real dealer contact and very little time invested.
If buying a new vehicle can be a pleasant experience this at least came close.

Bob, I've been reading a lot of fine print lately as well, in trying to explore new TV options... and, I'm sure you already know this, but I've found that the marketing department... "Better than the Ford F-150..." and the reality of the specifications show they are often comparing apples and oranges: the mileage for a pickup with a V-6 compared to a competitor's V-8, for example. Or, the numbers for a GM vehicle with a 3.08 rear end compared to the 3.42 in another.

As for the discounts, I think that relates to the "2014" models when they are early-releasing the 2015 models, and as Tin-Tin says, they're trying to move stock... But, I don't know that - just trying to put two and two together. But I do remember the first Mustangs were "1964-and-a-half" that didn't change for 1965. I wonder if the 2015 GM vehicles are just early.

To get you there and beat you up on your present truck trade-in. I've always thought dealerships operate like traveling carnivals complete with balloons, pennants, hucksters and shell games.

A car salesman does seem to be a cross between a persian rug merchant and a cell phone rep.
In my case I didn't even consider a trade in. It is difficult to put a value on a truck approaching 600k miles

Made out of steel.

Hi, the latest truck commercial that I saw was for GMC; They made it a point to tell us that their truck is made out of steel. DUH!!!!! We didn't know that. Or was that a knock on the Aluminum F-150?

It must be, otherwise it doesn't make sense to me. I think its funny.

I'm thinking that if a truck is a run around town and do small hauling errands, aluminum would be great. A real work truck should be more rugged than aluminum. Just my controversial 2 cents worth.
