I did have a '72 Chevy pickup I bought from a friend around 1980 and kept a few years. I think it was a C-10, 350 engine, 3 speed, 2wd, very basic, though it did have a radio. It was bullet proof and fast, I beat the hell out of it, and it adored gas. It was "interesting" to drive in a Colorado winter and it demanded that I drive very aggressively to get up hills and do (sort of) controlled skids around curves. It was a good truck, but I was glad to get a 4wd.
As for vacuum wipers, my memory is from l959 crossing Illinois on old US 30 in torrential August rains and the vacuum pump was failing and the wipers kept going slower and slower, and it was almost like having no wipers at all. We made it to a dealer just across the state line in Iowa and they fixed it right away. An early driving scar.
