Ford Truck Re-Call

So Ford is recalling their trucks for stapes that hold the gas tank up. They say salt can make them rust.

Then supposedly the tank could drop out from under the truck.

What brilliant engineer would make the straps out of anything but galvanized metal or aluminum. Oh the one that works at Ford who needs to be let go..

The engineer probably designed galvanized straps but accounting changed it to save $1.89 per unit.

It doesn't surprise me that this is an issue.
Galvanized straps will eventually rust away too.....
It's part of the joys of living in the rust belt. There is much more maintenance underneath if keep your car for any length of time.
Back in the late 70's our family purchased a car from my uncle who lived in Cleveland. OOOHHH what a mistake that was - everytime you worked on something under the car you had broken bolts to replace.

Hey - I thought this was a "bash Ford" thread, not a "bash accountants" one! No fair.

Seems these days just about everyone has some kind of recall. Thank goodness I have a 75 dodge with a 440 I can work on, with NO RECALLS (that I know of)

In 1975 you could still get good service....now we just get recalls.

I wish they'd put out more info... I know I'll eventually be able to do a VIN search but as of right now I have no idea whether our truck is affected. I'm not really worried so much about it - more curious than anything.

I doubt Ford even knows we own it, because we bought it used from a Chevrolet dealer (oddly enough), and we haven't had it to a Ford dealer for service.

Interestingly, I just lost a gas tank strap from my 2000 Taurus...was backing out of my driveway, and heard a scraping sound...got out and looked, and there it was, dragging on the ground. had to cut it off w/ a pair of snips.
It could just be an amazing coincidence, but I wonder if its more than just the trucks.

Here in WNY,(salty winters), it has been an all encompassing problem for many years.

They know. They use R.L. Polk registration data, provided by State DMVs to determine current owners. There could be a few months lag, from purchase of a used vehicle to accurate data back to Ford.

I know nothing about this obviously, because I live where the roads don't freeze in the winter, but it seems to me that some environmentalist group would have shut down the use of salt on the roads by now. It's got to be worse for the environment than carbon emissions. Salt kills vegitation, effects water quality, and I suspect much more.
