Ford Tough-vs-Elk

Here is prime example of Ford tough! On Wed. 12/27/06, we were on our way to Heron Lake,NM for some R/R and fishing with our AS. Due to the powers that be, we left late and was about 1/2 way there and two cow elk strolled across the road, we slowed down, but a third cow elk walked out and we had no choice but to hit it, luckily, we were going about 45 mph. Sent the elk across the road, but sadly she did not servive it. The truck had minimal damage with two small dents, and a broken grill, nothing happened to the trailer, not a thing inside was displaced. We were extremely lucky, she was about 500-600 lbs. We had no phone service, so had to leave it there. Storm that was anticipated passed us up and we had three days of peace, quiet, and fishing. On way home, we had to go and drop our AS at brothers home, it had snowed so much here that we could not chance getting it in our yard.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Elk Sausage, Elk stew, Elk Burgers, Elk Roast.
Opportunity lost.

In out neck of the woods, many people just strap the road kill to the hood.

Missed opportunity

No elk meat! Missed opportunity!

In Montana you are not considered a true resident until you have hit two Deer or elk.seriously.

Man, you need to buy your spark plugs at Wal-Mart!

Just imagine how much one would have cost for a Chevy ...sorry Chevy owners, I just couldn't help myself. I know they are good trucks, too.

At least your Ford didn't go up in flames in your driveway like so many others.

I think he's talking about Ford 8cyl engines spitting the plugs. Very common and he's probably lucky he made it to 48k before it happened.

Hi, No. I think he would have been lucky if it blew out at less than 36,000 miles so Ford would have paid for it. He mentioned "Not covered".

Ask JimGolden... his blew at 36k AND he had extended warranty. And they still wouldn't cover it.

Kinda reminds me of that line in Tommy Boy where Chris Farley says, "If you want me to **** in a box and mark it guaranteed, I can do it, I've got time"

Yes, it was a missed opportunity, would'a,could'a,should'a.Sorry about the plugs, but the front end held up, could'a trashed the truck, but did'nt. Now if the gods were with us, the darn thing would have flown over the truck and landed in the bed-oh well no sausages this year-Tamara

The heel is the guy that designed the thing and would not stand behind it.

I don't think my wife's Expedition has the spark plug spitting engine (I think hers is a 4.7L or what ever the smallest V-8 available at the time, that's why it isn't our tow vehicle) but I told her not to ever let anyone change the spark plugs when it gets a tune-up unless it is a Ford dealer and they are 100% sure it isn't the spitting kind.

I think the important thing is knowledge. Knowing that this is a potential issue allows those of us that have not experienced this engine flaw to take measures to avoid it.

For those for whom it is too late, I really feel sorry for you. This is not the kind of thing you are supposed to be hit with when you buy something as expensive and supposedly durable as a 1/2 ton truck or SUV.

They fixed problem in 2004, even though they say there never was a problem. "I had the only one it happened to". All the engines had the same problem from about 2000 - 2004. The head does not have enough threads to hold the plugs in. They also freeze in because there is such a long time to the first change.( another problem)
