Ford SVT Raptor

We have been traveling past 5 months in our 06 Tundra/07 Safari SE combo. The Safari is a great traveler, the Tundra could use a bit more power but works like a charm, if somewhat boring. We enjoy unhooking and exploring the back country, and getting back at the end of the day, or just cruising about.

The Ford F150 SVT Raptor has caught my eye (She doesn't know it YET!). Great for back country, good size about town, more power, and boring NOT !

But can it tow safely and comfortably? The Safari is 5000# max and ~650# on the tongue, evenly loaded. Am 65 this year. Not fond of growing old on the front porch, but still liking growing old, what do you think?

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

The Raptor is basically an F-150 and, as such, shouldn't have any problem towing a 20 foot Airstream.

The only possible problem with the Raptor as a tow vehicle is that it appears to be raised on the suspension. This can create an undesirable situation when a weight distribution hitch system is used.

"The Raptor will also tow 2,721 kg (6,000 lbs) and includes trailer sway control and tow haul mode."

Sounds like Ford realizes it is a better off road vehicle than tow vehicle. Like Moosetags suggested the lift and perhaps the over sized mudders will do it's towing duties no favors.

Yeah, but oh, what a truck! Retired and having fun? I say go with it. From the articles I've read on it, it comes with softish springs, but STRONG swaybars.. meaning it soaks up the bumps at speed, but has firm abilities to keep it from leaning in the turns. It's wheels are also pushed out to the sides a bit, increasing it's track width and stability. Overall it sounds like fun!

I think it should do fine with your Safari.

I'm waiting for the 4 door.(W/6.0ltr.) It would be great for that tow to Moab, and then run the back country. Then head down to a Baha Run !!! That's my "Dream" .
