Read the fine print in the auxiliary Ford documentation.
When I was looking at Ford trucks, there was a nearly 500 pound decrement in useful load between the base trim and a King Ranch model that reflected all the "glitz" that gets added as the trim lines go up. There is a huge profit in all that "glitz" that is not doing anything to make a ½ ton truck a better towing maching, just more comfortable for the driver's backside.

Cruise control that will slow down to match pace with traffic ahead of you if you're not paying attention, then speed back up to your set speed if/when the traffic clears.

Hi, I have been searching for a new 2014 F-150 truck. I have made a few compromises to get as close as possible to what I want. No dealer near me has one in stock, but found one in another state. My problem/concern is the tow rating and payload of this vehicle. I need to see a picture of the door sticker showing the payload before I commit to buying this truck. I have the invoice and I have built one on line, but that sticker is the actual thing. I'm looking at a 2014 F-150 Eco-boost, crew cab, short bed, Max tow, Electronic locking 3:73 differential, 18" LT tires, off road package. Most everything else doesn't mean anything.
Here's the dilemma:
On line chat with Ford ...........Payload = 1560 lbs......Tow rating = 9,600 lbs.
From the dealer's sight where vehicle is located: Payload= 1700 lbs....Tow rating = 7,700 lbs.
From Ford sales brochure ......Payload = 1900 lbs (3) ....Tow rating = 11,200 lbs (3)
(3) means with "Max Trailer Tow Package Only"
Listed under "Super Crew 145.0" WB 4X2 / 4x4"
Now I know, or think that I know, These numbers aren't exact because different options weigh more and will reduce the payload, but I'm getting mixed signals on trying to find out the payload of this truck before I say yes to it.
Any thoughts from your experiences?

Hi Bob,
Why don't you ask the dealer to snap a photo of the sticker on the driver's door and email/text it to you? You would then know the exact payload.

Unfortunately everything else does mean something. Now, I have a a 2011 F150 with everything you describe above, so don't know what may have changed, but my truck was listed with a payload of 1960lbs. However what changes all that depends on what trim you go for, FX4, Lariat, Lariat Limited, Platinum, King Ranch, etc. These trim packages will very the payload. My Lariat with Max Tow & 20" wheels has a sticker a of 1760lbs, so that package with 4x4 cut 200lbs off the payload. Replacing the P rated tires with LTXL tires has raised the payload. But yes, the trim model you pick and 4x4 vs. 4x2 will affect the payload.

Hi, the local dealer asked someone at the other dealer to look at the sticker, take and send a picture of it to us, but it has been two days so far.
I'm going on a trip in about a week and need to know if this is what I want or not.

Hi, yes I do know, but if something on this truck reduces the payload by a few hundred pounds, I'm OK with that. If a moon roof weighs 100 pounds more, then it will reduce the payload by that much. The point is, for me, that my Lincoln has a payload of 1600 lbs and if this truck is the same or lower, I don't want it. [note: I'm not getting a moon roof]

Looks like a keeper!
Are you going to put a camper shell on, tonneau cover or leave the back open?
My sister has a similar truck and it is nice except for one thing. Ford made the bed sides very deep so it is tough to get anything out of the bed....... I think they did this so the cab doesn't look so high.

I'm happy with the depth of the bed - I can just store a Honda 3000 under the cover fine.

Hi, I want a roll up hard cover on it if I can find something that I like. Seems like there are so many different covers. Mine has the tail gate step; I wasn't sure if I wanted one, but this truck with most everything, and a few more things, had what I wanted.

Hi, I want to keep my Yamaha 2400 in the bed; Hope it will fit under the cover. It should, but I haven't had time to take measurements yet.

Hi, Thank You. I drove it home and then took my wife and dog for a nice drive in the country. Now it sits in my garage waiting to get it's 1,000 mile break in before towing with it. I will also have to re-do my hitch and might have to buy a new shank. We are going on a trip tomorrow and will be using my Lincoln.
