Hi, For whatever it's worth; The above statement is worth about 50 cents!

A heavy half was a half ton with beefed up payload capacity. Just what we need and no one makes. Rear gross about 2500 pounds and a 1500 maxtow.

I'm guessing you mean 2500 lb payload, because a Camry's rear gross is probably about 2500 lb. And 1500 lb tongue weight?

An F150 with HD Payload covers both of those pretty well. Over 3k lb payload for a regular-cab, and the 12,200 lb theoretical towing capacity. The downside is that they're long wheelbase trucks, so they don't fit in garages and can be hard to park in crowded towns.

It was an F100 'half ton' in Ford's case, with rear suspension components from the F250 to push the GVWR up just enough to avoid the new pollution control regulations that applied to passenger cars. Mid seventies. Other manufacturers did the exact same, not sure who was first. I recall some GM versions had 'Heavy Half' decals on the box. The F100 and their GM equivalents went away around 1983 IIRC.

Yeah, What I mean...not what I say....

2500# payload in a 1500/150 series truck with a Maxtow package.

Playing with numbers to make sense.

Hi, I have been searching for a new 2014 F-150 truck. I have made a few compromises to get as close as possible to what I want. No dealer near me has one in stock, but found one in another state. My problem/concern is the tow rating and payload of this vehicle. I need to see a picture of the door sticker showing the payload before I commit to buying this truck. I have the invoice and I have built one on line, but that sticker is the actual thing. I'm looking at a 2014 F-150 Eco-boost, crew cab, short bed, Max tow, Electronic locking 3:73 differential, 18" LT tires, off road package. Most everything else doesn't mean anything.

Here's the dilemma:

On line chat with Ford ...........Payload = 1560 lbs......Tow rating = 9,600 lbs.

From the dealer's sight where vehicle is located: Payload= 1700 lbs....Tow rating = 7,700 lbs.

From Ford sales brochure ......Payload = 1900 lbs (3) ....Tow rating = 11,200 lbs (3)

(3) means with "Max Trailer Tow Package Only"

Listed under "Super Crew 145.0" WB 4X2 / 4x4"

Now I know, or think that I know, These numbers aren't exact because different options weigh more and will reduce the payload, but I'm getting mixed signals on trying to find out the payload of this truck before I say yes to it.

Any thoughts from your experiences?

(1.) Equipment group 302A / Cloth Bucket seats.

(2.) 3.5 L Ecoboost V-6 Engine.

(3.) LT275/65R18 OWL ALL-TERRAIN.

(4.) 3.73 Electronic Lock RR Axle.

(5.) Off Road package / skid plates.

(6.) HID Headlamps.

(7.) Max Trailer Tow Package.

(8.) Tailgate step.

A few options, I could have done without, but I'm glad that I have them. Only one item that I wanted didn't come with this truck, but we can fix that. I wanted the spray on bed liner.
Hi, this is what I came up with for my truck numbers wise;

(1.) GCWR = 17,100 lbs.

(2.) GVWR = 7,650 lbs. / 17,100 - 7,650 = 9,450

(3.) This leaves 9,450 lbs for towing if the truck is maxed out on payload.

(4.) Payload by book is 1,900 lbs. Actual payload as per door sticker is 1,745 lbs. due to Off Road package.

(5.) GVWR per door sticker is 7,650 lbs. Subtract the payload of 1,745 lbs. and get a vehicle weight of 5,905 lbs

(6.) Tow rating per book is 11,200 lbs.

(7.) Subtract the vehicle weigh of 5,900 lbs. from the GCWR of 17,100 lbs. and you get the max tow rating of 11,200 lbs.

So in basic terms, I come up with:

GCWR = 17,100 lbs.

GVWR = 7,650 lbs.

Max Payload = 1,745 lbs.

Max Tow = 11,200 lbs.

The Max Tow package and the Heavy Duty Payload packages are both available for the Lariat and the XLT with the 3.5 Ecoboost on certain wheelbases. With these options, the payload is increased to 3270 lbs (3050 4X4) and towing up to 12,200 lbs (11,900 4X4).

The yellow label is confusing. Robert found a 2014 145"wb crew cab with a payload label of 1745. I found a XLT 157"wb crew cab with Max Tow pkg (no HD Payload) and it was only 1765 on the yellow label. Roberts GVWR had 7650 GVWR Pkg and the one I looked at had the 7700 GVWR pkg. All the 2014 145" WB local to me are mostly have 7200 GVWR Pkgs. What does Ford do to the vehicle to increase the GVWR in these packages listed on the sticker? Is it the Max Trailer Tow package that increases the payload. I don't see anything in the description of this package that shows changes to the suspension.

Hi, yes; But they don't show this in the Max Trailer Tow Package description. It is shown by weight differences in the book. (3)

Hi, my truck from the Ford book. I believe that the skid plates from the Off Road package cost me 155 lbs. off of the 1,900 lbs payload rating.

Hi, please post pictures and details about your new truck. To date, I only have about 200 miles on mine. Another 800 and it will be ready to tow.
