All direct injected gasoline engines potentially have this problem, including the newGM "Ecotec"engine. The presence of a turbocharger makes standard intake valve cleaning strategies unusable.

A concern of course but I still would not hesitate to purchase an Echoboost engine.

Latest question. Can't decide between a 5.5 box or 6.5 box on a 2015 F150. Always need more room but my heart is telling me the short box looks a little better and would be easier to get around town in. Any thoughts anybody?

We have a 5.5 bed in our F150 and wish we had another foot for carrying our load when camping (bikes, ladder, etc.). I think you'd easily get used to the longer truck driving around town, parking, etc.

Buying Used Ecoboost

If one wanted to purchase a preowned F150 4x4 Ecoboost what should one look for that is peculiar to this vehicle? I've got a 2008 Classic 25fb, 8000lb GVWR.

Should 2011 be avoided?

Does anyone have the supercab version? There is only the two of us and we don't really need the crew cab and with the supercab you'd get the 6 1/2 bed. Do the rear seats fold up? Are the back seats comfortable for a smaller adult? The supercab version seems to be more affordable.

Thanks

Kelvin

I have a 2014 Ecoboost pulling a 28' Flying Cloud. I use the ProPride hitch and like the combination just fine. The Ecoboost gives us lots of power and yet we have the nicer ride of an F150 compared to a 250 or 350.

We have the 6.5ft. bed and it has not been an issue in parking lots and the such. We also use this truck as our daily driver so the longer box was a concern when we purchased it but it ended up not being an issue.

Prior to having this truck we owned the supercab version and liked it also. If I remember right the superb with a 6.5' box is the same wheelbase as the super crew with a 5.5' box so in my mind all your doing is trading box space for cab space. And if you don't need the cab space that might be a good trade.

As for the question of having adults in the back of a superb. We did that several times and its okay as long as it not for hours on end. But to take an extra couple out for dinner and sit them in the back - no problem at all.
Hope this helps

Cheers
Doug

Does anyone know if the integrated brake controller on the F150s will work with the hydraulic brakes on my Classic 25fb. I have the Dexter actuator plus it has a magnet inline on the electric connections.

Also, is the 3.31 axle not the best ratio or should I look for 3.55 or 3.73. Also, the 7200GVWR package, what payload does it give you?

The integrated brake controller has a setting for electric/hydraulic. I have friends who tow their hydraulic disc-brake trailers with an Ecoboost but I don't know which actuator they have.

The '15 has gone to 3.55:1 for the "Max Tow" package, reserving the 3.73 only for the HD Payload option, so I guess that means Ford thinks 3.55 is the best towing ratio.

We have a 2012 4x4 XLT Eco-Boost supercab version (not so fancy...) with a towing package option. We are a couple and felt that the tradeoff between bed length and cabin space was a good one. As previously mentioned the overall length of the super cab and supercrew are the same. The seats in the back fold up - the seats are a combination of a single seat and a double seat - which operate independently. The back seat is good for our friends, dog and cats - and groceries...

The one thing to be concerned about is payload capacity. The truck's payload (1660 lbs for our version) is perfectly good for us. Our 20 foot Flying Cloud is 5000 GVWR, and about 650 lbs tongue weight.

My dealer, pulled some strings with the Ford Rep... I will take delivery of my 2015 F-150 4X4 Platinum in Mid December. My 2011 and 2013 EcoBoost both were long wheel base, and I believe that is one reason I can free ball my 25fb for 25,000 miles with no problem and now my 2015 27fb no problem. my 2011 had a 3.55 axle, and it was great, wanted the huge mirror on the 2013 so I was forced to get the 3.73... OVERKILL..... on my 2015 F-150 I ordered the 3.31 axle, the new tow charts just out indict that the 3.31 and the 3.55 numbers are mirrored. I ordered the FX4 Pack with the 3.31 and Tow Pack....It will give me everything the Max Tow has except the 3.55 axle and the HD rear bumper... Huge mirror are avail standalone this year... YEA! It's ez to trade up with Ford because they hold the value.... my 2013 will bring top trade, can't say that with some others.... not names any names......

It will be interesting to see how you like the new truck. I'm hearing of several who are taking delivery around that date. It won't be long after that the rest of us will hear how the world likes the new truck....

I find it interesting that your hauling your 27 FC just on the ball. How do you deal with the big tongue weight on the back of the truck?

Cheers

Doug

LaBigDogs, for prior year models, I read on the f-150 forum, that while the list for the packages (Tow & Max Tow) both include an upgraded radiator and trans cooler, that upon inspection, the Max Tow radiator had 51 tubes vs 41 tubes for the Tow and that the trans cooler was bigger on the Max Tow. But you're probably not towing up many hills, so I don't think it's a big issue.

That 2015 F150 is a beautiful truck.
I don't know about that roof line dipping a little lower at the center of the windshield, but it sure is a good looking ride, especially in silver.
