It has been over a year since this thread started about the EcoBoost. How are these trucks doing after that time? Any problems with direct injection, turbos, and does the V6 engine hold up well towing the heavy weights?

The only apparent fly in the ointment

Gene,

I think that Ford is still enjoying their day in the sun, since they have a number of well-designed and well-built products.

Except, vehicles with the MyFord Touch system.

They have just had a calamitous drop in quality ratings on cars equipped withe the system. Their customers are calling them cumbersome and distracting to use.

Sadly, all it will take is an accident which can be blamed on the new system, and that will be it for My Ford Touch.

Find me a new Porsche comparably equipped to an Ecoboost Lariat at around $40k and I might have to buy it. A base-engine Boxster with metallic paint (not a custom color, just metallic) and memory seats lists for $56k and a no-option car (good luck finding one of THOSE) is $50k.

Who's talking about an F150 Platinum? I specified Lariat (Supercrew, Ecoboost, 3.55 locking diff gets to about $41k list.) The post much later than yours about a Platinum package was on the SuperDuty anyway, which isn't available w/ Ecoboost.

If I understood the issues (you really have to read the link to get an idea what it is about), they sound like things that happen when you put a vehicle on the market before you are sure everything works properly.

I was just discussing the new truck with the ford dealer mechanic, and is getting great reports back about it. One of his clients told him that it tows better than his tundra. The echo boost it a mini turbo charger on each exhaust manifold. the v6 has more power than the v8.

Well, as someone who builds complex software systems, I'd guess that many of the problems that come up in the first year have never been seen before releasing the vehicle for production. There are a handful of people reporting problems... and hundreds of thousands of ecoboosts out there... simple statistics indicates that many of these issues are just going to have to be debugged in the field, since the odds of them showing up during testing is pretty low.

I am glad turbo charged engines are making a comeback. It is the best way to get lots of power and efficiency out of a smaller engine. I drive a turbo charged Eclipse and it is the mouse that roars. You also have the added benefit that it can put out as much power at higher altitudes. If I were rich like most Airstreamers I would have an Ecoboost just for the cool factor. I will have to settle for my 21 yr old Eclipse to get my thrills. So you think they put in a 100 MPH speed limiter in the Ecoboost like the rest of the trucks. Things just start getting fun at 100 MPH.

I won't bite on the rich comment. Sounds like you would like to have an Ecoboost though. It probably does tow better than my Tundra, but I am happy with what I have

My 10 year old BMW, My 12 year old Triumph and Ducati motorcycles and my 08 Tundra will all easily do 100 mph, but I doubt that I have gone that fast in any of them. I value my license and my life too much.
