Hi from GA. . . Welllll, I'm sleeping on the purchase of an '11 F150 Eco-Boost Supercab FX4. Mileage claims are 15/21 with 4wd pkg. I love my 08 F250 V-10 EXCEPT for the 10 mpg even when I'm not towing and it was a great companion on our Western trip this past summer. The F150 supposedly will handle my 25' Safari just fine, and it certainly drove nicely without it. You step on the loud pedal, get the turbo(s) working & IT GOES. The Eco-boost was only $750 up charge over whatever is standard and the whole pkg came in less than $40k. All most all the feedback I've read here & elseware has been good, soooooooooo. Thanks for all the input, it really helps. Regards, Craig

FWIW, I just read in Consumer Repots that they are not reccomending Eco-Boost in Ford cars due to a reliability trend they are starting to see.

Yes, they said the EB in the Ford Flex was below average in reliability.
Interesting that they also reported that many hybrids were proving extremely reliable and most HD 3/4 ton pickups were the most problematic vehicles.

Problem is Consumer reports weights a broken door handle the same as a broke transmission. I consider unreliable what causes you to end up dead in the road. Ford has a lot of new models and they are sticking their neck out some. They are going to have problems the first model year. Ford may also be suffering from GM itus where they have a lot of techno gimiks that work for a while then die a screaming death. I have been in a Ford fusion Hybrid and it is way over ridden with gadgets but that is what you sign up for with a hybrid. I like the fact that US car manufactures are getting away from their turbo aversion. It is probably the best way to get more out of less and do it more efficiently. Will the little engine that roars last as long as a V10 or a diesel that remains to be seen?

This thread has been active now for going on ten months, and it seems owners have nothing but praise for the Ford Ecoboost, and I'm happy to see this because I like it when new technology suceeds....always looking for something better.

However, maybe now would be a good time for the people that have these trucks to chime in with how many miles they have on them, what actual computed fuel mileage they are getting, and discuss any problems they might have had?

How 'bout it Ecoboost owners?

I'm also a member of CR, and I'd like to know where you saw that quote. I went to the F-150 test, and the '11 ratings (the only ones listed so far, of course) are all top-flight. The comparative comment on engine performance is still:
"Both engines are strong and get decent fuel economy. The optional 365-hp, 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine provides more torque than the 360-hp V8, which gives it a more effortless feel in the midrange, especially when hauling a load."

Could not find anything negative about the EcoBoost. Please provide a link..? Thanks.

I only have 5K+ miles on my Ecoboost Lariat, but 4K of those miles have been towing a 25' AS around the Rocky Mtns. and I am very impressed and pleased. The turbo direct injection has been superb towing through passes at 10,000 ft. I also tow with a VW V10 Turbo diesel and I am convinced that turbos are a great advantage at altitude.

The last thing I wanted was a pick-up truck, but it does allow us to take a bunch of stuff with us on longer trips. I looked at the Dodge Power Wagon and Toyota Tundra and found the Ecoboost to be the best for me. Reliability issues? I have extended warranties on both vehicles so I'm sure nothing will go wrong, but if it does, I'm covered. Mountain towing average 12mpg.

Ford slipped in the CR ratings this year because of the MyFordTouch infotainment system. I managed to find a reference in Quality Magazine that essentially contradicts Road Ruler: "Champion said Ford’s EcoBoost engine did well in the survey though the Ford Flex equipped with EcoBoost fell in the ratings due to issues other than the engine." (emphasis mine.)

My questions is; would one have bought the 3.5 L engine WITHOUT the eco boost??? Neither would I.
I think we are trying to get a small engine to do something it wasn't designed for and than gave it steroids.
I thought lon and hard about this; and decided on the Dodge 5.7 hemi 1500. It has 390 hp and 407 ft lbs torque and Dodge's version of anti sway and brake control.
I have stored my AS for the witer; but can't waite to hookup and go.

Best use for Consumer Reports is to start the campfire. It's funny how they complain about the Jeep sitting to high off the ground, has a simple interior and large tires. That's why people buy 10,000 Jeeps a month!

Excellent point, newroswell. (In 1994 I bought a new Bronco despite CR's ratings....it's still in the "family" today, closing in on 300,000 miles.)

As a footnote, the only negative comments I have read about the Ecoboost come from those that don't own one...

I too have noticed that, but still think I'll wait for more history on the drive train.

I have that luxury because I don't need a new truck at this time.
