It must have been around the time they quit enforcing anti trust laws.

They enforce SOME antitrust laws, the ones that tend to protect those who play ball.....

Pappy, pay attention Ford down, Gm rising as 1/2 ton availability in all cabs is almost ramped up. GM HDS are not even close to full production. Ford will start selling down 150s as new one ramps up. I expect serious ramp up issues for new 150. Then ford starts on the new HDs next year. I see ford losing the total number game, as they have before. Then the cycle will repeat again. See my post on page one. This is a silly discussion in which the truth really lies in model redos and production capabilities.

As Yogi said, "You can't predict the future, cause it ain't happened yet", so whatever you are predicting is bogus from the get-go.

That's world sales, not US sales. If you are going to throw in China, no telling what the real figures are.

Half ton trucks aren't really trucks, anyway. They're just passenger cars with beds.

Sorta like a Chrysler 300 with a pickup bed, huh? Heck, I'd bet you could modify a Smartcar to haul a Bambi if you really wanted to.

It is actually quite predictable... to a reasonably high degree. I sat through a 2 hour conference call Thursday with top management on this very subject and have lived it for 30 years and counting.

Another view on this:
I saw this in the rear window of a truck yesterday-
Anything with spark plugs is not a truck

I agree, but when I buy my retirement truck, I just can't make them pencil financially. And I am now turning my attention to dollars and cents as I approach. I love the power an downhill control.....but......

Hi, yes; And real trucks aren't Ford, Chevy, or Dodge. Real trucks are Kenworth, Mack, and Peterbuilt.

Ah Diesels....now the conversation has morphed to a topic I feel competent to talk about.
Diesels are expensive, heavy, expensive to maintain, burn expensive fuel, and really don't make that much better fuel mileage with all the emissions equipment that must be used on them these days. Certainly not enough better to make it pay.
However, if you ever tow a heavy trailer with a gas truck, and then switch to a Diesel, you will not want to go back.
Another decision you will have to make....is the ease of driving and towing worth the cost? You know what my decision was, and I would only say I would probably go back to a gas truck if I were towing a 25 footer or lighter.
