By the way, not to throw a monkey wrench into this thread, but I did camp near a guy with an SOB and an Eco boost. He said he used to own the 5.0 V8 and would never trade back. He loved the Eco boost. Said the low end torque was night and day.

We, like several others here, have an F150 S-crew with a 5.0 v8, 3.55, and "standard" tow package. We bought a 2013 XLT 2WD a year before we bought Pete, our 2014 Flying Cloud 27FB. We were fortunate in that the XLT gave us enough payload and capacities to handle the 27FB just fine. My son has an FX4 with the ecoboost, and that engine is strong! A lot more equipment on his truck though, and it does cut into the payload.........

We haven't been outside of Florida in the almost year we've had the combo, but it does fine. In fact, I used the specs of the truck when shopping, insisting on an UVW of the coach under 6k lbs, and tongue weight under 900 lbs. Pete now weighs about 6800 lbs loaded, with a tongue of about 1100 with a ProPride hanging on it. My only wish is for the 3.73 rear-end, but I leave it in tow mode in 5th and it does fine.

This truck and trailer are perfect for us, and we plan on keeping them both for a long time!

Build your own truck.

Hi, I tried several times to build my own truck and couldn't ever get the Max Tow package; Well, I guess you can't get it with the 5.0L V-8 engine. If I'm towing, I need the towing mirrors. Now it seems that I'm back with the Eco-Boost engine. Thinking that if no one has what I want, that I would just order one. I was told today that any new orders would have to be the 2015 models even though they won't let you custom order one yet. Also believable is that the new 2015 F-150's won't be discounted for quite some time. I can get a pretty good price on a 2014 model.

Wouldn't it be better to go with a 3/4 ton than a max'd out 1/2 ton?

If you really-really can't wait for the 2015s and want the V8, you could always work a great deal on a new or lightly-used 2014 with the V8 and install the big mirrors after the fact. The door structure should be the same, though I haven't read a detailed account of someone retrofitting the big tow mirrors.

If you can wait for the 2015s, the tow mirrors are now broken out as a stand-alone option, you can get them with or without Max Tow, and I think you can get Max Tow with smaller mirrors if you wanted to.

Ask your dealer if they will honor an X Plan Pin price. If he asks you if you have one, tell him you are in the process. With an X pin($500 over invoice), you can order what you want and 2015's are in the Job 2 schedule and will take orders from anyone from any dealer.

Hi, since we never plan on replacing our 25'er, at 6,300 lbs GVWR, a half ton is enough. My Lincoln Navigator has done a great job for nine years.

Hi, before I bought some add on mirrors [CIPA] it was very difficult to back up and not good for seeing for things like lane changing. Even with the CIPA add on mirrors the vision isn't very good, just acceptable.

Hi, not carved in stone yet, but looks like I will be getting a better price than the X plan. Dealer discount and factory incentives.

Hi, finding a slightly used F-150 was on my list. We got great deals and very low mileage [15,000 miles on one and 16,800 on the other] on our last two vehicles, but I can't find anything close to what I want. A few deal breakers are black paint, low payload, and a moon roof.
