Having towed with a 5.4L Gas F-250 and a 6.0L Diesel F-250. I can say the reserve power of the Diesel is nice to have. The Diesel is not working as hard and the Gas underthe same load. This should translate into longer life of the truck.

OK Just came back from a 3,000 mi trip. Went up and down some very steep grades including Priests grade to Yosemite, the Cascades and Rte. 20 from Willits to Ft. Bragg. We had no problems. I could hold 60mph if I wanted or needed to. We cruised at 1500 rpms at 60 mph. Up to 2500 rpms for hills and hit 3500rpms when I needed to pass on a steep grade.
Got between 10mpg and 13mpg depending on the terrain. Have the tow package, an Equil-i-zer and a Prodigy.
I am perfectly happy with my Expedition; I have crossed the Sonora Pass in CA (trailers not recommended) with no problems and Red Mountain between Durango and Ouray, CO.....no problems.
I know you people with the diesels and 3/4 ton, 1 ton duallies have superior vehicles.
I do not care.
