finally bought the TV!!!

Hi all,

I thought you might like to know how it all worked out, since many of you offered generous advise, in-depth personal TV experiences, etc.

After numerous test drives of new, used and very used vehicles, both F250 and Chevy's 2500HD, and lots of research and pencil pushing, etc., we just committed to purchasing a 2500HD Duramax/Allison combo, '08 LTZ, to be picked up Monday evening. Knock on wood It will be real when I am driving down the highway in this puppy!

I just want to thank you all, for your generousity in sharing experience and advise, as it was invaluable in making this decision. Ultimately it boiled down to Chevy giving us the best deal, though I really liked the look and toys available with the Ford. Chevy's ride was a bit easier and quieter too, for this overstimmed minivan mom, so that helped, but really liked both of these rigs and would have been most proud to own either.

Anyway, thank you, thank you, thank you! Most grateful for your help.

Now the real adventure begins, still have to pick up the AS and figure out how to hook up, tow, back up, brake, etc. Wish me luck! Actually, please say a prayer for us and anyone who encounters us on the road

Cat and the boys

ps haven't even picked up the 25FB Safari and I noticed a 30' with slider avail that is calling to me! Good thing we bought a 3/4 ton! Shhhh, don't tell my DH, this is all most daunting at the moment

Good luck with the TV. It is satisfying, indeed, to have been able to "see" through the eyes of others before such a big purchase; I'm sure it has made for confidence.

I think of the many people met in the 1970's and 80's who might well have enjoyed trailering, but were put off by the many details to be learned. What a gift, the Internet!

Great Rig

Roamin' Cat,
Congrats on the new rig. I have an '06 GMC 2500 HD and I LOVE it. It tows our 30' and 34' like nobody's business. The tranny break is nice comming down hills and the gas mileage is pretty good for a large rig. I get 18 MPG without the trailer and I have seen 13-15 MPG hauling the aluminum. I don't push her, I usually stay around the speed limit or 5 MPH over it. I got rid of a 2000 GMC 6L gasser with a 5 speed manual tranny because it just didn't have the guts to pull the trailers like I wanted it to. The 6.6 Tubo Diesel allows me to pass people going uphill pulling the trailer.

Now if diesel fuel would just come down in price. I may have to go green and start cooking up some bio-diesel.

Later,
Carl

thanks you guys!

picked her up tonight, what a great ride home!!! Have to spend the next couple of days figuring out what the buttons do, how to adjust things, etc., because

Friday we pick up our AS, finally!!! I am SO psyched!

What a tremendous blessing this has all been, I pray the learning curve is not too steep.

Get out there and have fun. We all had to learn at one time, so we will be here for you and the boys. Come down to Tampa Fl and look us up. we would be honored to help. Again, congrats and happy camping.

Congrats again Lynda, towing with the D/A is really a treat. You will be spoiled as you will not have had the "benefit" of towing with anyhting else first!

As noted previously, if you have any questions with TV, hitch, AS, whatever...just give a shout, we are right up the street.

I forgot to ask in my previous post -- what kind of cab and bed did you get with the truck? Are you planning on a cap or a tonneau cover?

its a crew cab, regular bed (6.6 ft)

putting in a bedrug this week, looking to add a cap soon, for the extra storage on trips and better diesel mileage (I think!)
